Interdimensional AirWorks - Durable 3DP VTPR Glider - "Silvana"
Description
The Silvana is a concept for a 3D printed VTPR Glider with a 68" wingspan and a weight target of less than 20 ounces.
Other design goals include:
•180° full flying stabilizer, 180° rudder
•Crashable
•easy to print
•easy to assemble & install electronics
•easy to tune
•motor add-on (eventually)
The first version will be from a combination of 98A TPU and CF PP filaments.
BUILD LOG:
Build Log 4/18: Front portion of wings printed from TPU, ailerons next out of CF PP. I should note I am using two tubes extending the length of each wing half, and over those tubes in the modelled recess, some 24k carbon tow.
Build Log 4/19: A heavier than expected weight is assumed at this point. As someone who has always specialized in ultralight building techniques, 350 grams for the wing seems exorbitant. I have to remind myself this is intended for more high performance flying and the weight will be good.
One thing that has been eluding me over the years was good aileron prints, their tall and thin nature lends them to wobble. As my modeling skills improve I have managed to mirror and connect them at the trailing edge while printing the thinnest line possible between them, enabling use of the full z-volume of 250mm.
4/30: most parts are printed, decided to give everything a resin coat. Also pictured are wings from another project.
