This thing is fast and a lot of fun. But it has one big flaw. The plastic support that the top of the front shocks screws onto is a very weak. It is also the place that will take the brunt of a crash when you accidentally land upside down and is pretty much guaranteed to break. And when it breaks you have to buy a whole new chassis because it’s all one big molded piece. Pretty wild design choice. I wish I had bought the Baja version instead.

Bought this about a week after getting the arrma grom mojave brushless edition. All I can say is wow, what a little rocket. This thing rips like the mojave grom except maybe even quicker. Handles great on the concrete and also a ton of fun on backyard track. I ordered a radianz body and the proline tires for it at same time only cause I prefer the truggy look more than buggy. Radianz body fits like a glove and looks great. Just a heads up this typhon grom and mojave grom sit low and struggle in grass, even mine that I keep short on lowest setting on mower. But in somewhat groomed dirt what a blast. To be 100% honest the 2s battery that comes with it is more than enough unless you are into speed runs. Highly highly recommend both this typhon grom and also the mojave. Even with 1/8th scale and 1/5th scale trucks i have these 2 are becoming some of my favorites.

I'm 63 and use a wheelchair, so I wanted something fun to drive around the driveway without needing to chase it far. The Typhon GROM 223S BLX fit the bill nicely. Bought the RTR bundle with the 2S battery — plenty of speed for my style, especially with the throttle limiter set around 75%. The DSC stability feature is a nice touch for smoother cornering while learning. One surprise: despite being labeled 1/14 scale, it's only slightly bigger than a 1/18 truck I already own — so don't expect a big size jump from the numbers alone. That said, it's well built, looks great, and handles pavement and driveway driving beautifully. Upgraded to Pro-Line Vector tires (made specifically for this model) for better grip — highly recommend if you're staying on pavement. Great little truck for casual, confidence-building fun.

Nice but not for bashing it’ll break on you more for speed and just up and down the street songs baby jumps.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally praise the Typhon Grom 223S BLX for speed, handling on pavement and smooth surfaces, and ease of use for beginners. Ratings are mostly 5/5, with one 2/5 and one 4/5. The main recurring complaint is that the plastic front shock tower support is weak and prone to breaking in crashes, and because the chassis is one molded piece, a break may require replacing the whole chassis. One reviewer contrasted this with the Baja variant. Other reviewers note the model sits low and struggles in tall grass, and one reviewer found it only slightly larger than a 1/18 truck. Some reviewers say it is not suited to bashing.

  • + Fast, strong acceleration
  • + Handles well on pavement and groomed dirt
  • + Easy for beginners to start and maintain
  • + Durable in reported use
  • − Weak plastic front shock tower prone to breaking
  • − Whole chassis may need replacing after damage
  • − Sits low and struggles in tall grass
  • − Not suited to bashing
