I was an early adopter of the scx10 when the first version was released many years ago. I loved that thing and put a lot of hours into mods and scale accessories like lights. I was chasing a scape look while driving. Unfortunately for me, my scx10 i met a tragic end when it ran afoul of my wife's Jeep while she was backing into our garage one evening. I was crushed, and my scale crawling days came to a melancholy end. Fast forward many years to find me semi retired and with a scx10 iii in my hands. Holy cow! Out of the box it has the cosmetic mods i worked so hard for back in the day. I've trailed it so far for a few hours across our 30 wooded acres and I'm loving it. Its reawakened my love for the hobby! Also it's not parking in the same garage as my wife.
Nice rig. Very fun and capable. Only complaint is the body mount and dismount. So frustrating that axial did this on such an expensive and nice rc.I even bought the clipless body mount kit and installed it. Still a pain in the but to get the body aligned to make sure is snaps. That's my rant. Great rig and good features though. Bought it for my 7 year old and he loves it. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and he hasn't broken anything on it yet.
I've unboxed it but haven't had time to run it yet. I've already ordered both rims and tires and a clipless body kit. I'm busy with my job, being that I work six days a week. The Axial CJ7 is definitely a great addition to my rc collection!
Reviewers generally describe the Axial SCX10 III Jeep CJ-7 V2 (Red) RTR as a capable, fun crawler with good out-of-the-box cosmetics. One reviewer reports several hours of trail use across wooded property and enjoys the build; another has run it for about two weeks, with a child using it without breakage. The recurring complaint is the body mount and dismount, which one reviewer found difficult to align and snap on even after fitting an aftermarket clipless body mount kit. A third reviewer has only unboxed the vehicle and has not yet run it. Review count is small and one review contains little product-specific feedback.
- + Capable and fun to drive
- + Good out-of-the-box cosmetic detail
- + Durable in early use with a child
- + Strong trail performance reported
- − Body mount and dismount is frustrating
- − Body alignment difficult to snap on
- − Aftermarket clipless kit still fiddly
