About the SCX10 III
Performance Chassis & Suspension
The builders kit features a durable one-piece steel C-channel chassis that reduces frame flex and promotes more precise suspension movement. Adjustable oil-filled shocks allow builders to fine-tune suspension performance for improved traction, stability, and smooth operation across varying terrain. Stainless steel pivot balls provide long-lasting durability while maintaining consistent articulation under load.
Drivetrain & Links
The kit includes durable AR45 straight axles that replicate the layout commonly found on full-size off-road vehicles. Heavy-duty 6mm links increase overall strength while reducing flex, helping improve steering response and minimize unwanted movements such as axle steer and torque twist. The LCXU transmission design also allows builders the option to convert from standard axles to portal axles if desired.
Metal Gears, Panhard & Ball Bearings
The kit utilizes full metal drivetrain gears and complete ball bearings to reduce friction, improve efficiency, and extend component life. The ball bearing-supported drivetrain promotes smoother operation and helps maximize run time while minimizing maintenance. An adjustable metal panhard mount adds durability and can be positioned forward or rearward to accommodate either straight or portal axle configurations.

Second build, first crawler. Super fun!! Instructions are very easy to read and assembly was a breeze, for the most part. Kit is awesome with heavy duty parts. A few things that I found frustrating. Tiny c-clips. I mangled one for the shock but was able to salvage it. I lost the other for the spur gear assembly. Of course the c-clips are on back order. I bought a kit from Amazon but it does not work. I assembled it without the clip. I'll just have to remember that when disassembling the transmission in the future. Extra c-clips in the kit would be nice. Next was the steering link. All link lengths can be matched up and adjusted to the image in the manual. The manual showed a gap at the end of each rod end. If I left the gap the link was longer than the image. I adjusted the rod ends until the length matched. There was a point when the manual told me to put lock-tite on bolts that threaded into plastic. I know that was a misprint. Last was installing the drive line end retaining pin cups. 4 cups for each end. 3 fit easily. The last did not fit at all. Not even with a little WD40. I had to continually file the drive line end and file the inside of the plastic cup until I could get it to fit. I filed for 15-20 minutes and it was still a tight fit. Without any issues I would have done 5 stars. 4 is a good compromise. Would do another Axial kit for sure.
It's a Coyote with straight axles. No over drive in front. 90mm shocks. I'm using it as a donor for my '87 Toyota RTR. In Short. I'm going to fit the body and mounts on to it. It takes some cutting of the Coyote shock mounts to do it.
I loved building this kit. It's very good quality and built to be reliable and tough. Mine is paired with a 1200kv fusion and jconcepts tires and creeper body. It's body dropped and setup with droop, making it a real line slayer for it's category. Get one and enjoy. Amain also has the best customer service in the business, they will take care of you for all of your RC needs.
came when it said it would about 5 days, was in great condition packed well, fun little kit to put together no problems at all, worth every penny ty again
Nice kit. Solid. I've built 4 10.3 basecamp builders kits and put hard bodies on them all. This is my first 10.3 V2 builders kit. I am building a 4 door mojave body with a bobbed long bed. 14"+ wheelbase. These frame rails were not long enough for this build and not adjustable like on the basecamp 10.3. I found the basecamp kit frame rails, trans skid, and sides at amain. The V2 kit boat side sliders probably won't work out so great if you are doing a hardbody. All the other parts are redily available and interchangeable for the most part. This kit has 90mm shocks with comp type shock mounts, the 10.3 basecamp kit has 100mm shocks with stock type mounts. Have fun.
Reviewers generally describe the Axial SCX10 III V2 1/10 4WD Scale Rock Crawler Builders Kit as easy to assemble, well made and durable, with instructions rated clear. Several note it is a Coyote-style build with straight axles, 90mm shocks and comp-type shock mounts. Recurring complaints concern the tiny C-clips, which one reviewer mangled and another lost, with replacements reported as back-ordered and a third-party clip not fitting. One reviewer found the steering link setup fiddly. A builder planning a hardbody and longer wheelbase found the frame rails too short and non-adjustable, and the boat-side sliders unsuitable, so they sourced parts from another kit. Delivery and packaging were praised.
