About this part

Crazy Crawler LaserFoam "HD Strong 120x48mm" 1.9 Foam Crawler Tire Inserts are precision cut open cell foam tire inserts designed for performance. LaserFoam inserts offer incredible lateral stability and sidewall support, yet still remain nice and soft on the contact patch. The material and cut shape ensure that the tire only rolls in the area of the tread that is in contact with the surface, creating great driving characteristics and an incredibly scale look. Plus, the soft open cell foam material allows the insert to fit even when internal weight is added.

These LaserFoams were designed specifically for Concepts Ruptures tires (JCO3053-02).

NOTE: The LaserFoam HD inserts should not be exposed to moisture for a long period of time.

The foam was too wide to fit the Traxxas Defender's tire without really blowing it out of proportion - so I trimmed the insert, easily done. Then came the real issue - removing the tire from the wheel. I tried the hairdryer method and found it was a real struggle. The end result - after a great deal of time and energy - was the tire came off, but a small area of the tire's rim was torn. For the second tire I used the bake method. Tire on aluminum foil, on a cookie sheet in the oven, set the oven for 325 - no preheating, the tire was in for the entire ride - then five minutes at 325 and pulled it out. Very hot tire so wear gloves, but do not let the tire cool. With a little force, the tire came off - within a minute - easily, without damage, and without the hairdryer struggle. Have your work area prepared and wear gloves that can withstand heat. And now the tires do not compress anywhere near as much, and the Defender has more traction.
