I picked up this motor after the motor in my SCX24 died. This motor lasted about 3 batteries before it failed also. At first I thought the battery was drained, so I charged the battery, installed it and nothing. Steering is responsive and the LED in the ECS was on. (second ESC as well) Truck has been used by an experienced RC enthusiast; indoors normal use,not exposed to the elements and the transmitter set to the middle position. I love the truck, but the motor seems to be a weak link.
well like everybody, mine burned, as well as my esc, buy another one don't waste your time and money rebuying it
It does not come with the blue resistors shown in the picture, causing it to overheat. Use it on medium power which is selectable on the transmitter and it works fine.

These are basic motors. Nothing serious but they are cheap. The motor on my daughter’s deadbolt burned out after about the 4th full battery through it and the first time she actually ran it constantly for a couple hours. It appears there was some rubbing from the front U-joint on the center link. I’ve read that extra drag could cause premature failure, so I’ve replaced the center link with stock plastic vs aluminum. The “blue resistor” is actually a mica capacitor. I think it’s .1uF. They’re not needed. Once upon a time back when we still had to match crystals on the TX/RX, brushed motors caused enough noise in the AM/FM frequency band to cause interference. With today’s modern 2.4ghz+ radios that use more modern protocols, these capacitors aren’t really necessary.
Reviewers generally report that this brushed motor fails early, with many citing burnouts after a few batteries or weeks of use, while a few report it lasting months. Several note that the motor does not ship with the capacitor (often described as a blue resistor) shown in product photos, and some say adding a 0.1uF capacitor or using medium throttle power helped. One reviewer reported a unit arriving unsoldered and another noted that reducing drag on the center link may have contributed to failure. Opinions on value vary: some call it cheap and acceptable for stock use, while others recommend alternatives such as the Hot Racing Barrage-style motor or other aftermarket options. Sample is moderate and experiences are inconsistent.
- + Inexpensive replacement cost
- + Works well for some owners over several weeks
- + Responsive steering and good performance on medium power setting
- − Frequent early failure and burnouts
- − Capacitor not included despite photos showing it
- − Quality control issues such as unsoldered units and loose leads
- − Inconsistent lifespan; alternatives often recommended
