I got one of these on a new slash from my LHS. It lasted not even one battery then went up in smoke. Called tech support but did not have a receipt for it so not luck, Customer service can't help without a receipt. I tore it apart and one side was burnt. WILL NOT purchase again, and it looks like I'm not the only one.
It only lasted through one 2S battery and then died on the second. That's too bad, I was really looking forward to this motor coming out so I could utilize it in a couple of my trucks. The very brief amount of time it was operating it ran great!
I put this setup in a HPI Wheely King. It's used for trails in the summer and snow fun in the Winter. Initially, I seemed to have problems with getting the unit to respond to setup procedures. The Tazer Twin motor/esc waterproof combo have been chugging along for a couple of years now without any problems. Pricing is the same as the Hobbywing Juststock combos. The programming flexibility is lost with the Tazer Twin. The compact size is amazing if your vehicle has the motor space. Comparing pricing between these two HW Juststock combo and Dynamite Tazer Twin combo, I would say the Dynamite combo is overpriced up to $40. The technology is amazing pairing an ESC in the endbell of a brushless motor. The performance has been reliable and hours fun, back-to-back batteries. I would recommend buying the Tazer Twin combo only if you are confident with Dynamite electronics and are someone willing to try new things.
These things are fantastic, great on my Tamiya VX pro! very torquey and great fun!
I put one in my Losi 22 and it only has about 6 hrs on it but works perfectly. Had it at the track and it was considered fast by the local experts--for a stock motor.
Reviews are mixed, with two 1/5 ratings reporting failure: one unit burned after about one battery and another died on the second 2S battery. A 1/5 reviewer said the warranty claim was refused without a receipt. Two 5/5 reviewers praised performance, describing the motor as torquey and fast, and one reported months of trouble-free use in a Wheely King. A 3/5 reviewer noted setup-response problems and reduced programming flexibility, and considered the price high compared with a similar Hobbywing combo. One 3/5 review is off-topic and says nothing about the product. Reliability is the recurring concern, and the reviews show no clear consensus.
- + Strong torque and performance
- + Compact all-in-one design
- + Trouble-free use reported by some owners
- − Reported failures after one or two batteries
- − Setup responsiveness problems
- − Reduced programming flexibility
- − Price considered high versus alternatives
