About this part

E-flite UMX Twin Otter - Micro Bind-N-Fly RC Airplane

The E-flite UMX Twin Otter BNF Basic Electric Airplane is modeled after the iconic twin-engine DHC-6 Twin Otter produced by De Havilland in 1965. Developed as a rugged STOL plane, the plane was used to carry passengers and cargo into harsh environments like the sub-zero Antarctic and the scorching North African desert. In 2005 Viking Air Limited purchased the production rights and announced the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter. E-flite has faithfully replicated the stunning details of this plane down to UMX scale. Charge up and take to the skies with the E-flite UMX Twin Otter!

Because of its convenient ultra-micro size, the Twin Otter can be flown in more compact spaces, including in many yards, parks and sports fields. Along with molded-in panel lines, corrugated control surfaces, and a scale-inspired trim scheme, the UMX Twin Otter is also equipped with scale-looking LED navigation and landing lights. Plus, the brushless motors, with counter-rotating 3-blade props, are compatible with common and affordable 1S 500–800mAh batteries also used for the UMX Ultrix and other popular models. The E-flite UMX Twin Otter offers a truly unique flying experience that a wide range of pilots can enjoy!

Flys. Great on safe or expert very nimble led lights are awesome landing gear could be better and a rudder would make this a totally different plane

Awesome little plane. I’m not sure what the other reviewer means by the tail rudder; This plane utilizes thrust vectoring of the props to turn, not the rudder.

Does not bind to DX8E had to use a older 6 channel DXS and the rudder does not work at all. Looks nice but sucks i cannot fly it without all control surfaces Not working. Very disappointed Again. Do Not know why I keep buying from you. DEFECTIVE.

Easy to fly but the motors aren't strong enough. The twin motors en lieu of a rudder is interesting, but not something I'd want all the time. Mine stopped binding after a couple flights (no crashes).

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally find the UMX Twin Otter easy to fly and nimble in Safe or Expert modes, and praise its LED lighting. The plane steers by differential thrust from its twin motors rather than a rudder; one reviewer wrongly expected a rudder, and another found the twin-motor steering interesting but not ideal for all flying. Criticisms include landing gear, motor power, and binding problems. One verified buyer could not bind the plane to a DX8E transmitter and used an older 6-channel DXS instead, reporting a non-working rudder, and another reported binding loss after a few flights. The reviews are few and mixed in tone.

  • + Easy to fly
  • + Nimble in Safe or Expert modes
  • + LED lights
  • − Landing gear could be better
  • − Motors not strong enough
  • − Binding problems with DX8E and loss of binding after flights
