About the Spur Gear

Performance & Durability

The Exotek Grom/NASCAR Aluminum Lightweight Spur Gear is a high-performance upgrade designed for the Arrma Grom and Losi NASCAR series. Crafted from hard-anodized 7075 aluminum, this spur gear is significantly lighter than the stock steel counterpart, weighing only 5 grams compared to 12 grams. This reduction in weight allows for higher motor RPMs and cooler operating temperatures, enhancing overall drivetrain performance.

Its precision-engineered design ensures a perfect fit and smooth power transfer, while its wear-resistant construction provides durability for long-lasting performance. By minimizing rotational mass, the Exotek spur gear reduces drivetrain stress, leading to improved acceleration and responsiveness. This makes it an excellent choice for racers seeking to optimize their vehicle's performance and reliability.

Features:

  • Made from hard-anodized 7075 aluminum
  • Weighs only 5 grams
  • Much lighter than the stock spur gear
  • Resists wear and tear
  • Precision-engineered for a perfect fit

I'm an agreement with Chad. Part does not fit. Machine tolerance is off causing the force of the plastics to seize the spur gear.

Absolute hot garbage part don’t even waste your hard earned money! This part absolutely will not fit in stock form. First installed the part and couldn’t even get the car to roll at all. After taking things apart multiple times I finally discovered that the shank that sits next to the bearing was hitting on the chassis and causing a massive bind. Compared the diameter of new gear to factory gear and discovered that the old gear was .37in diameter and the new one was .41in diameter. If it wasn’t for a machinist buddy that said give it to me I got this I would have a perfectly useless chunk of metal. Once turned down to match the factory diameter the part fit great and combined with the Losi aluminum shaft I have been able to shave a couple tenths off of lap time but all in all the gain is not worth the headache associated with getting the part to work Exotek really needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink this part!

Terrible fit. Installed it at least a dozen times. Even tried it in another car. Customer service from Exotek wanted me to take a bunch of measurements for them instead of just letting me send it back for a return. Not worth the hassle. It binds something terrible. I would give it zero stars if I could. Save your money and buy the Delrin gear from Losi.

2 stars for craftsmanship. They should warn the young ones that if you don't have a PERFECT mesh it's toast in a nanosecond. Aluminum fixed mesh motor mounts are a must for longevity. Exotek, where's the speed run gear??!?!

Exotek must have updated this batch as they fit much better now. Nice and free.

What reviewers say

Reviewers report a mostly poor fit. Several say the spur gear binds and will not run in stock form, with one reviewer attributing it to a shank next to the bearing contacting the chassis and another to machining tolerance issues. One reviewer found the fit acceptable after turning the shank down to factory diameter. Customer service reportedly asked a reviewer for measurements rather than offering a straightforward return. One reviewer noted a fresh batch fit better and praised the value. Reviewers also say that mesh must be very precise, and that aluminum fixed motor mounts are recommended for longevity. Several recommend a Losi Delrin gear as an alternative. Sample size is small and the reviews are inconsistent about batch and fit.

  • + Fits well in later batch, per one reviewer
  • + Good value for the price
  • + Craftsmanship praised by one reviewer
  • − Binds in stock form, shank may contact chassis
  • − Diameter mismatch with factory gear reported
  • − Requires precise mesh, may wear quickly
  • − Customer service return process criticised
