to properly use these hakko says you need to wipe side to side not "plung" it into it as amain has written. it's used exactly like the sponge. using it like the sponge it works better than the sponge. or you can use a wet towel or blue shop rag and save yourself a bit of money.
It doesn't really remove all the solder off the tip of my Hakko 936 solder iron. Plus it moves around as you try to clean the iron off, I'll stick with the sponge.
Love it, works great and way cooler than a lame old sponge
Love this more than a sponge. Cleans and preps soldering iron for more “do work!” Five stars because it says Hakko and bling gold color.
This item magically removes solder from the tip of your soldering iron. And it looks cool. The little steel wool type thing looks like a brillo pad, but you definitely don't want to wash dishes with it. That's not cool. But Solder, solder is cool. Well, I mean it's super hot, but you know what I mean. Anyway, get this. It works. And it looks cool. I said that already.
Reviewers generally rate the brass curls cleaner highly, with most praising it as an alternative to a wet sponge that cleans solder from the tip effectively and does not lower tip temperature. Some note it helps prevent splatter. One verified owner reported it did not fully remove solder from a Hakko 936 iron and that it shifted during use, preferring a sponge. Another reviewer said it can be used side to side like a sponge, or substituted with a wet towel. Several reviews are brief or focus on appearance, so the evidence is limited to a small number of owners.
