They burn out after moderate usage. I am on iron number three in four years. It will be working just fine, and then comes the day you turn it on, and no heat. You will cover three or four planes if you are lucky. The second one had an almost immediate failure of the supply cord. The cord breaks inside the insulation, and the iron experiences intermittent functioning. I had to repair the cord twice. Recently it quit heating just like the first one: the digital display works, but no heat. I would buy a different brand if it existed.
