Love it so far. I've been through so many buggy chargers from Amazon, glad to finally get one that seems to have solid software. And the voltages are accurate. One thing that is interesting is that it defaults to 3.85 as the standard storage charge for LiPos, and 3.9 for LiHV. This is actually in the range for what manufacturers recommend but is different than every other charger I have owned. UPDATE: Since writing this review I have had multiple failures of the RDX4. In addition to the one I purchased from Amain, I purchased other units. I owned 3 in total. Now 2 are completely dead. The problem SEEMS to be related to using bullet charging leads. My theory is that if the bullets touch each other, there must be some capacitors or something storing charge, which is then released instantly, which blows a fuse in the charger. In two cases, just one channel was affected (and HiTec repaired one unit for me, which then failed again on another channel). In another case, the whole unit popped. I have never had this happend except when bullet charge leads are plugged into the unit. I have reached out to Amain for information. Until then, I would proceed with caution on this charger. (It is wonderful when it work though!)
Bought one at Joe Nall. Worked great for 4 months then the thumb wheel became eratic. Emailed Hitec and they came back and said, "send it in", that they can fix it BUT I would have to pay for shipping and repair. I already paid $260 for the charger, I'll be dammed if im going to pay for shipping and repair. I use to like and depend on Hitec, but I'll not by another charger from them, servos, yes but not a charger. You would think they would make good sense I had it less then a year. I would NOT recommend this charger!
Great functionality. Until it pops. Then you're done. $250 gone. While plugging in a bullet connector in the standard and expected way, the unit popped and went dark, never to work again. Apparently this is not uncommon if you search google, and it happens with bullet connectors. I purchased this maybe a year and half or two years ago. I live in a winter climate and only run outdoor, and I own two other dual chargers, so this RDX4 quad was not heavily used. It's now a brick. A product can have all the functionality and awesomeness in the world, but it's worthless if it goes belly up from typical use. BUYER BEWARE.
I purchased this early in my ramp up to RC. From what I understood, there is a lot of risk charging batteries correctly and I was worried about getting a safe but good solution that would allow me to charge several batteries at the same time. Many of the solutions suggested by the experienced racers, such as iChargers, were complex and expensive. The Hitec RDX4 is a good balance of price and capability. The charging is probably slower than some of the more advanced chargers but it hasn't been an issue for stock racing. The UI is fast enough for most purposes but you can use the app if that doesn't work well for you. It's also small enough to easily carry back and forth from races. If you don't need to charge 4 batteries at the same time, you can get away with the RDX2 800. It's kind of hard to find in the manual but this takes XT60 with the standard balance leads. If you're using shorty bullet batteries, like the Protek 6400mah, you'll need XT60 to 5mm. There are lots of brands that offer these, such as Tekin or RLPower. I charge at 10A, which is about 1.5C. The batteries I'm using could probably take a little more but because these don't get drained down deeply with the cars I'm currently racing, the process is generally quick. I can't comment on the quality of battery life management, as I haven't been doing this long enough.
Great charger! Very efficient!fast and has the all the bells
Reviewers are split sharply on the Hitec RDX4 Quad charger. Positive reviews praise its software, accurate voltages, compact size, ease of use, the companion app, and suitability for stock racing, though charging is described as slower than advanced chargers and the fans are noted as noisy. Negative reviews report units failing after months or about two years, including a thumb wheel malfunction and a unit that stopped working when a bullet connector was plugged in. One reviewer links multiple failures to bullet charging leads, though this is a personal theory. Several reviewers mention repair costs and poor support experiences. The sample is small and includes both verified and unverified reviews.
