About the Xerun AXE Plus R3 Combo

ESC

The Hobbywing XeRun AXE R3 Brushless ESC is an innovative powerhouse designed to elevate the performance of rock crawlers ranging from 1/10 scale to 1/6 scale. Featuring Hobbywing's patented Field Oriented Control (FOC) technology, the AXE R3 delivers exceptional low-speed torque, greatly enhancing the driving experience. The ESC is equipped with a chip-type magnetic encoder, ensuring precise signal output and consistency across all three phases, which guarantees accurate rotor position data. This precise control allows the ESC to manage up to 6S LiPo batteries, delivering a continuous current of up to 135A, making it suitable for 1/10th, 1/8th, 1/7th, and 1/6th scale crawlers. Additionally, the dual external control channels enable real-time parameter adjustments through the receiver’s open channels, ensuring that users can optimize performance in varying conditions seamlessly.

Durability and convenience are at the forefront of the XeRun AXE R3’s design. The ESC boasts an IP67 protection rating, ensuring it is both waterproof and dustproof, capable of operating reliably in diverse climatic conditions without risk of damage. A smart cooling fan feature activates only when the ESC reaches a preset temperature, helping to conserve power, reduce noise, and maintain an optimal operating temperature. This smart thermal management is complemented by a robust aluminum case, which adds to the ESC’s durability and protects the internal components. The built-in Bluetooth module allows for easy programming and real-time data monitoring via the HW Link mobile app, providing users with the ability to fine-tune settings, upgrade firmware, and access the ESC's built-in data logging functions on the go. These features, combined with the powerful internal BEC that provides a maximum output current of 15A with switchable voltage settings, make the XeRun AXE R3 an exceptional choice for serious rock crawling enthusiasts seeking unmatched performance and reliability.

Motor

The Hobbywing XeRun AXE R2 Brushless 2800kV Motor is a game-changer for 1/10 rock crawlers, incorporating advanced design and cutting-edge features to deliver unparalleled performance. As the world's first Field-Oriented Control (FOC) brushless system for rock crawlers, it offers super linearity, high torque, and extreme silence, ensuring a smooth and powerful driving experience. The motor supports up to a 3S LiPo battery and utilizes a chip-type magnetic encoder that guarantees consistency between the three phases' signals, providing precise rotor position feedback. This encoder also includes "Polarity Protection" preventing damage from incorrect wiring. With an IP67 waterproof and dustproof design, the AXE R2 motor is built to withstand harsh weather and track conditions, ensuring reliability and longevity. The intelligent torque output and speed closed-loop control maintain consistent motor RPM under all loads, while the 4-pole, 12-magnet structure featuring Hobbywing's "staggered pole" patent eliminates cogging and torque ripple, enhancing low-speed maneuverability. Additionally, the new sensor harness with a plug-and-screw design and silicone O-ring ensures a firm, waterproof connection between the motor and ESC, solving the waterproof challenge for sensor ports and making the XeRun AXE R2 Brushless 2800kV Motor an outstanding choice for rock crawling enthusiasts seeking exceptional performance and durability.

This is an absolutely fantastic combo. I’m a big fan of the Fusions, but when space allows I really prefer the Axe with its Bluetooth programming and serious torque!

David FoxVerified owneron Hobbywing Xerun AXE Plus R3 Sensored Brushless Combo w/540L R2 Motor (2800kV)

I would like to share how Hobbywing continues to knock it out of the park with electronics for 1/10 crawlers. This Hobbywing Axe R3 2800kv combo is incredible! It all started with the Fusion SE1800 in a TRX4 Sport, what a game changer that 1800kv was. Down the road that TRX4 transformed into an incredible upgraded chassis crawler with an upgraded Hobbywing Fusion pro 2300kv. Again, the fusion pro made massive improvements with the FOC and smooth and slow speeds. I noticed the industry rc community was making a shift into higher voltage 4S systems and I was considering making the change and needing to purchase newer batteries. The Hobbywing Fusion Pro Elite honestly seems like a great deal at only $149.00 but then Hobbywing posted the Axe R3 combo at a staggering $169.00 from $269.99! The Axe R3 & 2800kv is leaps and bounds more capable than the Fusion Pro. Fully programmable via the Hobbywing V2 link with 2 auxiliary channels for on the fly adjustability. I didn’t think that the controllability could get any better than the Fusion Pro but I was so wrong. Even with the 2800kv motor this Axe R3 is so buttery smooth and capable of such slow speeds that you could mistake it for not actually moving at all. Never mind the gobs of juice on tap for the get up and go when needed especially when I click 2nd gear my god this thing tears it up. I’m currently running a protek 4800 LIHV battery and the efficiency is also amazing. For anyone whom is building a full on crawler or trail rig you honestly can’t pass up a deal like the Hobbywing Axe system. Even at the full price of $269 I’d still consider it a smoking deal! Don’t pass this up.

What reviewers say

All three reviewers are verified owners of the 2800kV sensored combo and rate it 5/5. They praise its low-end control, braking, and torque, and note its 4S LiPo capability and wheel-speed assistance. One reviewer compares it favourably with the Fusion line, citing Bluetooth programming. The third review is a longer account of the reviewer's Hobbywing upgrade history and does not give much detail on this specific combo. The reviews are few in number and no criticisms or disagreements are raised.

  • + Low-end control
  • + Strong braking
  • + Strong torque
  • + Bluetooth programming
