I run this combo in all of my 1/8th scale e-buggy and e-truggy vehicles. The ESC is robust and high performing. Never had an issue, even in very hot, harsh environments (114 deg F SoCal race events). The XeRun XR8 Plus ESC and G3 motor gives you "full sensored" performance from stand still to full throttle. This is a BIG deal. Having tested all sorts of ESC+motor combos from different vendors (even mixing and matching), the feel of the Hobbywing combo is noticeably better. My preference is the 1900kV 4268SD motor (HWA30401906) for both e-buggy and e-truggy. Maybe for really big tracks you could consider the 2250kV 4274SD motor (HWA30405001) for e-truggy, but I haven't felt I needed the extra power even on a track like the TheDirt at Perris. Also can recommend the Hobbywing OTA Smartphone ESC Module Programmer (HWA30850400). This is the best way to set up your Hobbywing ESC, imo. Super easy to use phone app. *Sportsman-level driver, been running 8th scale for 10 years.
So far so good. First Hobbywing combo I’ve run. I put this in my B4e and it’s smooth, fast and stays cool with a 30mm fan on the motor. It looks cool too.
Fantastic ESC/Motor combo for my Mugen MBXITR truggy!
Own 2 of these XR8 PLUS G2S Got on sale for a great price easy to hook up and set up. Lot of tunability and adjustability on each of the sections.
I’m loving the combo. This is my first experience using Hobbywing, I drove Nitro Truggy all summer. This thing in the MBX8TR, excellent. So much fun.
Reviewers of this 1900kV combo largely report strong satisfaction, with most praising smooth, powerful performance in 1/8 scale buggies and truggies (including Mugen MBX8TR/MBXITR and B4e platforms) and easy setup with the Hobbywing app and programmer. Several reviewers describe reliability over extended use and in hot conditions, and one notes that the sensored feel is noticeably better than other combos tested. One verified 1/5 review reports two ESCs failing within six months, one after about ten batteries and one after losing programming and failing to recover on factory reset, with no warranty replacement. One reviewer describes the 2250kV motor as a possible alternative for large tracks, though this is a suggestion rather than a tested result. Overall, reviews are positive, but reliability is contested by a single negative account.
