About the Crawlmaster 2n1

High-Torque Performance in a Compact Design

The Crawlmaster 2n1 features a massive 21mm high-strength rotor, designed to maximize torque and low-speed control. Its custom 10-pole, 12-slot magnetics ensure ultra-smooth startup, giving crawlers the precision needed for technical maneuvers. Unlike larger systems, this motor maintains full 540-class power while reducing weight and size, making it an ideal choice for scale trucks and rock crawlers.

Integrated ESC for Plug-and-Play Convenience

This all-in-one motor and ESC system simplifies installation with prewired XT60 and JST connectors for quick setup. The integrated 40A ESC is preloaded with AM32 firmware, offering precise throttle control, drag brake tuning, and efficient power delivery. The included USB programmer allows for easy tuning and adjustments, ensuring optimal performance for any terrain.

Durable & Waterproof Construction

The Crawlmaster 2n1 is built to withstand the elements, featuring a fully sealed aluminum housing that protects against dust, dirt, and water. Its beefy bearings and robust internal components enhance longevity and durability, making it the perfect choice for extended trail sessions and extreme crawling conditions. Whether you're navigating rocky climbs or water crossings, this system is ready for the challenge.

There is not much to like about this other than the small form factor and higher KV than other 2n1’s. It cogs. Has “pinion rattle” (that’s what Holmes hobbies calls it). And gets extremely hot very fast. This is from the new batch. I’m about to see what Amain can do about returning it.

Waited for these to come back in stock to order one, so it should be from the new 2026 batch. Upon first test run it was noticeably jerky on startup but seemed ok once it was spinning fast enough to come out of sine mode. As it was a test run, about three minutes of very light "trailing" I decided to check the motor and it basically burned my finger. Not wanting to burn the motor down I ended my test run there as Holmes does not warranty for damage from overheating, and decided to investigate when I got home. I have 12 other AM32 ESC's but of course Holmes has to be special so none of the other software programmers work and I could only get the website version of the programmer to work. Upon reading the default settings I don't think I'll be buying from this brand ever. Setting an AM32 esc to 14 poles on a 10 pole motor will melt the motor and or the ESC, I have done it before. These do not come programmed "as smooth as we can get them" according to Holmes; that or they just don't know how to tune an AM32 system. The default profile that came on mine looked like a copy pasted profile; kv setting off by over 1000, pole count wrong, & sine settings set in the middle of the sliders(default). I have adjusted the settings on mine since and the temps are under control now, but sending these out programmed with the wrong pole count, especially when you have to jump through so many hoops to program these is unforgivable IMO.

I bought the Holmes Hobbies 3000kv with high expectations, but it turns out it heats up very quickly even using a 7.4v battery. I don't recommend buying it. I still haven't received a response from Amain. I hope they can resolve this for me.

Ive always ran Holmes Hobbies motors in all my trucks. I’ve never had an issue with them until this 2in1 no matter how I gear it,it still has chatter. It gets super hot even with no load on it. I would not recommend this 2in1 to nobody.

John Shawon Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster 2n1 Brushless Crawler ESC & Motor System (3000kV)

Very dissapointed in this product.Ran way hot and the drag brake was not holding. I contacted Holmes and he said if the drag brake was turned up it would get hot....it gets hot with it turned down. Programming was a joke. NOT RECOMMENDED.

What reviewers say

Six of seven reviewers rate this 2-in-1 crawler system 1/5, with most reports coming from the 2026 batch. Recurring complaints include the motor running very hot, sometimes even without load or at lower 7.4V use, along with pinion rattle or chatter, cogging, jerky startup, and drag brake that does not hold. Several reviewers also reported difficulty with programming, including using only the web programmer, and unsatisfactory responses from the seller or manufacturer. One reviewer rated it 5/5, citing compact size, quieter operation than some alternatives, stronger drag brake and punch, and good wheel speed at 3000kV. Overall, the reviews are predominantly negative, with overheating being the most consistent problem.

  • + Small form factor
  • + Strong drag brake and punch
  • + Quiet operation
  • + Higher KV for wheel speed
  • − Runs very hot
  • − Pinion rattle and chatter
  • − Cogging and jerky startup
  • − Difficult programming
