About this part

Spool Overview:

Hot Racing Arrma Grom Aluminum Differential Locker Spool Set. This is an optional upgrade intended for use on the Arrma Grom 1/18 Typhon, Mojave, and Granite platforms. This spool can work on either the front or rear differential, locking the wheels together so they rotate at the same speed. This is particularly useful in off-road conditions where maximum traction is needed, providing equal power to wheels attached to the same axle. CNC machined from durable and solid aluminum, this spool is built to withstand the rigors of off-road adventures. The anodized finish adds a personalized touch that provides a layer of corrosion resistance, ensuring long-lasting performance with a sleek and professional look.

Note: Recommended for use on low-traction off-road surfaces to avoid damage to the driveline.

Tried to install it on the rear end of a mojave Grom and the screws that hold the output cups could not screw into the actual center locker piece. It’s like the hardware is 1.4mm but the holes in the red locker piece are 1.6mm. The four screws that it comes with does not solve this issue.

I wish I could write a better review & reading the previous review I was thinking "Na, this guy probably was running a crazy setup". But here are the situation, result & faults. I bought it thinking I can control spin outs and come out of a turn with faster exit speed on my Losi NASCAR by putting it in the front diff. Many TC run a locked front axel so why not this one. The quality of the part is good. everything fits perfectly. After installing it broke the CVD pin off the front drive shaft, I thought it was because I had it on a "Brushless" NASCAR conversion. BUT it did the same thing on a STOCK brushed NASCAR as well. Major design fault is that the HT locker diff is made for the STOCK plastic gear diff. If you upgrade to the metal gear diff the drive cups are different and won't fix. Having to run the plastic drive cups will tear the hinge pins out of the drive shaft. No bueno...! This is not ideal for the front diff on the Losi NASCAR both brush and brushless. stick with the metal diff and run a thicker gear oil.

I thought this was the solution to the diff issue the Groms have. But sadly it’s not. The dif cups snap literally in minutes, when using in the grom. I tried on both the typhon grom, and Mojave Grom

What reviewers say

All three reviewers rated the Hot Racing Arrma Grom Aluminum Differential Locker Spool (Red) 1/5. Reviewers report that the locker does not fit reliably in the Grom differential: one says the output-cup screws do not thread into the locker piece because of a hole-size mismatch, and the included screws did not resolve it. Another reports breaking a CVD pin on the front driveshaft when fitted to a Losi NASCAR, on both brushless and stock brushed setups, and attributes this to the locker's design for the stock pinion layout. A third says the differential cups snapped within minutes in a Grom, on both Typhon and Mojave models. Reviewers agree the part's build quality is good, with one noting it fits its intended dimensions. No reviewer reports a successful installation.

  • + Good build quality
  • + Fits intended dimensions
