these are probably the best option out there for stock replacement. nice they come with two sets of springs, one soft and one harder. the one GIANT draw back to these is that the pivot balls are held into the shocks with rubber o rings. They pop off super easy when crawling and are tiny so you will never find them. Hoping to fix this with some tiny metal washers. If they didnt have this issue would rate 5 stars.
Shocks are good quality with one MAJOR issue. They are held on with tiny rubber o'rings that pop off very easily. You'll have issues within 10 minutes of installing them. Why this hasn't been rectified is beyond me. It's ridiculous that I paid this kind of money for these & they won't even stay on the truck due to a very obvious product defect. They need a small washer or an E-clip fastener. Now I have to go buy something. Very unhappy about this.
I really quickly just want to let anyone know who is reading any HR(Hot Racing) shock reviews that as soon as you get your shocks you will want to pull out and flip the metal ball joints so the big flange is on the outside, immediately they won’t pop off anymore and you can actually enjoy wheeling!!! ??
I just put these on my C-10. I have tons of upgrades and was looking to get a little more ride height out of the rig. With the lightest springs provided I was able to get the truck sitting up more. However, the truck tips over more now than it did with the stock shocks. I will be putting the stock shocks back on and adding heavy grease to the barrels like YouTubers suggest. They look cool but definitely negativity affect the rock crawling capability of the truck. I have drastically lightened the body of my stock C-10, I do believe these shock might be beneficial to a truck with a heavier body.
Just put these in my Bronco, and they made a huge difference!! Very nice compared to stock. Install was easy and the correct way as advised in the comments below..used the silver(firm) f/r, and the truck is perfect !!
Reviewers agree the shocks are well made and offer a stock replacement with two spring rates, but the most common complaint is that the pivot balls are held by small rubber O-rings that pop off easily, especially when crawling. Several owners report a fix: reversing the metal ball joints so the large flange faces outward, which they say stops the balls from coming off. Other reviewers report mixed performance results, with one finding the lightest springs increased ride height but worsened tip-over on a heavily modified C-10, and another finding the shocks restrict axle movement and do little on brass-wheeled trucks. Several reviewers say the shocks improved handling or reduced bounce.
- + Good build quality
- + Two spring rates included
- + Improved handling and less bounce for some owners
- + Easy installation
- − Pivot balls pop off easily from rubber O-rings
- − Small parts are easy to lose
- − Restricts axle movement for some owners
- − Worse tip-over resistance on one heavy-modified crawler
