I'm new to the 1/28th scale world and don't race, only dabble. Kyosho's hardbodies (Autoscale Collection) are super-cool, no denying. I'm learning a lot about function vs. aesthetics and Kyosho's propensity towards exclusive proprietorship. For example, one can ONLY use an EVO compatible receiver with the EVO electronics. I figured this out AFTER buying this chassis (hence minus the star). Make sure you find an EVO compatible receiver (I used Part#: KYO82041, working perfectly with my RadioMaster MT12 transmitter as well as the OEM KT531P radio. The scale is small, so the usual Futaba-style connectors are too big. Kyosho uses it's own proprietary connection of radio receiver and esc in the EVO electronics. This is the same MR-04 RWD brushed system chassis, just different electronics. The gyro takes a bit of getting used to, as the throttle is also controlled by it (slows down while turning). You can control the gyro gain from the controller, which is cool. While I can overlook the use of AAA batteries, Phillips-head screws, and plastic throughout, it's a bit annoying how the servo system is. There's a gearset that is not quite enclosed and vulnerable to errant debris blocking the gears, causing one to completely disassemble the chassis in order to remove it. Again, annoying especially if you're new to Mini-Z's. Another thing that bugs me is when you try to reverse even after braking, there is an extreme delay. You can adjust the esc settings only if you separately purchase the Kyosho I.C.S. USB Adapter for $60.99 (backordered). They can't be changed from the controller or esc programming card. On the upside, the sensored motor and ball diff really make for smooth driving. There are other aftermarket chassis that will fit a Kyosho body such as the Team Associated RC28R 1/28 2WD, Atomic, ReflexRacing, and MWX to name a few. With these you can buy your choice of electronics, but still use the beautiful bodies Koyosho makes. This will open a whole new RC world for you, trust me. For the most part, the Mini-Z's are fun little cars and will make you want to build your own home track or go find a local one. The Kyosho AutoScale Collection bodies look so awesome!
