Great engine has lots of power. The only downside is the pullstart, it broke on the 4th start but other than that no complaints.

I am 60yrs old now. Been in this hobby for 42yrs. Bought this engine and installed in my Revo. Tried to get running for 3 days trying everything I knew to do. Bottom line I found out "ALOT" of people having the same issue and ALL of them was complaining about the Carburetor!! I called Amain Hobby and explained my issue. THANK YOU Amain Hobby as they sent me a "NEW" Carburetor that comes on the LRP .32 WOW..My Engine Started right up and idled for the first time since I purchased. "THANK YOU" AMAIN HOBBY FOR TAKING CARE OF ME!

So you heard $160 and think it’s not like the best engine or thing/ item you could buy ever! Roto start back plate with the bit and a nice drill! They idle like advertised! And ripppppp! Tons of torque! Ride it out past break in, it will be sluggish for the first 8 tanks. Not too sluggish, but man is it ever a no brainer. Tons of compression and a nice exhaust tone!

This is my 3rd LRP engine. I have purchased them for several different vehicles over the years. initial tuning is a bit off to manufactures spec but once you get it right your good to go for several gallons of fuel. Powerhouse engine for bashing fun

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally rate the LRP ZR.28 Spec. 4 engine highly for power, torque, and compression, with several noting it runs well in a range of 1/8 scale vehicles once tuned. The most consistent criticism concerns the stock carburetor, which multiple owners report causes idle and tuning problems; one owner says the manufacturer replaced it, and another recommends aftermarket alternatives. Tuning is described as a bit off from factory spec initially but manageable. Other complaints include the pull starter breaking after a few uses and one report of the engine locking up during break-in, with the return window having closed. One reviewer asked about fitment in a Traxxas Revo with a big-block kit, which was not answered in the reviews.

  • + Strong power and torque
  • + Good compression and exhaust tone
  • + Easy to tune once set up
  • + Runs well in various 1/8 scale vehicles
  • − Stock carburetor causes idle and tuning problems
  • − Pull starter can break
  • − Initial tuning often off spec
  • − Reported lockup during break-in
