Chris Payneon Mugen Seiki MSB1 1/10 2WD Electric Buggy Kit w/Ball & Gear Differential

Great kit! Switched to the Mugen after running the TLR 5.0. Build quality is great and fit and finish and quality of parts. The easy access diff is super nice! 4 screws and it out! The car is about 30g heavier but they don't offer LW or SZL parts as of yet. I would highly recommend this car over another. The manual is slightly more difficult to understand if you haven't built a kit before but the pictures are great so that helps. MSB1 kit fit and finish is great. The parts fit precisely with no filing or sanding needed. Tons of adjustments and the basic carpet setup gets you in the ballpark for indoor offroad carpet racing. I just changed the gear diff to a 2 gear on 10k fluid, stiffer front and rear springs, and slightly heavier shock oil for both front and rear. Tighten that slipper now all the way down and you are good to!

Well designed and high quality kit. Enjoyed the build. Plastics are beefy, clean and needed no trimming or rework. Plenty of posted setups and videos to help. Ran mine on indoor, medium-high grip clay and podiumed my first day out. Used a ball diff that was perfect. Traction was well balanced front and back. Jumping attitude and landing feel confident and controlled. Only upgrades were 3 dot springs, FP pistons & aluminum servo horn. Manual is clear but basic. I feel this is a great kit out of the box with the need for little or no upgrades. Not a lot of bling but so easy to drive on the track. Just what I was looking for with a kit.

Really underrated 2wd buggy. I did not have any issues putting this kit together. Everything was well molded with good tolerances and high-quality materials. The manual is easy to follow, but the way the parts are packaged can be a little confusing if you aren't paying attention. Make sure you double check screw lengths. Mugen did a great job designing this model!

What reviewers say

All four reviewers rate the Mugen Seiki MSB1 kit five out of five and praise build quality, fit and finish, and clean, well-molded parts that need little or no filing. Reviewers describe the easy-access ball and gear differential as a highlight and report good handling on indoor carpet and clay, with one reviewer noting a podium on their first outing. Reviewers mention that the manual is clear but can be harder to follow for first-time builders, and one warns to double-check screw lengths because parts packaging can be confusing. One reviewer notes the car is about 30g heavier than a TLR 5.0 and that light-weight or special parts are not yet offered. Reviewers say the kit works well with few upgrades, though several reported tuning changes such as springs, shock oil and diff fluid.
