One of the nicest builds I've ever put together, instructions have plenty of tips for different setups (dirt or carpet). If you run on low grip or loose dirt buy the kit with the ball diff, I ended up buying another. The ball diff is the smoothest design and I get consistent runs. I've had both buggies for over a year now and other then rear wings I don't think I've broken anything at all. The only real updates I've put on are the Mugen steering horn and alloy servo mounts.I run the new updated kit with a Mod setup and the original with 17.5 stock with the updated gear diff out of the new kit, it just doesn't take as long to "break in the diff" as the original. The cost of parts is a bit pricey but not far off it's competitions price and the quality is so much better and nice to work on, Ive found that my biggest expense is tyres because I get so much run time out of this buggy. If you are after great quality kit this is it.
Car was fast out the box on the kit setup. Mugen needs to address the front caster blocks, on the carpet setup if you hardly bump a pipe it sheers the mechanical stop and locks the front steering up. Mugen needs come out with an update and this buggy will be money!
Build quality on this car is excellent. Durability is excellent as well. The only negative to this car would be the cost of the factory aluminum parts but I can't knock it for that as I don't think that stuff is really necessary. It is also expected for Japanese. Build is what you would expect out of a Kyosho/Mugen car. Have put this car in multiple A mains and it will see more. Stock suspension is too soft for carpet. Just bought a second one for dirt and we'll see how it does there.
Reviewers generally praise the MSB1's build quality and durability, with one noting it has been run in multiple A-mains and another reporting over a year of use with few breakages beyond rear wings. Factory aluminum parts and overall parts costs are mentioned as expensive, though one reviewer considers them unnecessary upgrades. The gear differential is a point of divergence: one reviewer prefers the ball differential kit for smoother, more consistent running on low-grip or loose dirt, and reports the gear diff takes longer to break in. Stock suspension is described as soft for carpet. One reviewer reports the front caster blocks shear the mechanical stop on carpet setups after a light impact, locking the steering. Ratings are high overall, with one lower rating citing that issue.
- + Excellent build quality
- + Strong durability
- + Fast out of the box
- + Good setup instructions for dirt and carpet
- − Expensive factory aluminum parts
- − Stock suspension soft for carpet
- − Front caster blocks shear mechanical stop
- − Gear diff needs break-in
