About this part

Shocks Overview:

This a set of Big Bore Scaler Shocks, designed specifically for the TRX-4M. Take your TRX-4M to the next level of performance in Pro-Line Style! Just like Pro-Line's best-selling 1/10 version, these miniature Big Bore Scaler Shocks feature CNC machined Aluminum Shock Caps, threaded bodies, bottom caps, and polished steel shock shafts for added style and durability over the stock shocks. In addition, the double O-ring seal on the main shaft eliminates leaks and provides a smooth and low-friction shock action!

The Big Bore Shocks come pre-assembled in a set of 4 with all mounting hardware included. All you need to do is unscrew the top cap and add silicone shock oil to fill the shock body and experience the supreme damping action! Three spring rates are included with these shocks, Green (Soft) for the front, Yellow (Medium) for the rear, and optional Red springs (Hard) for heavier bodies or a tuning option. Get your own Pro-Line Big Bore Scaler shocks and elevate your TRX-4M performance and crawling abilities!

I am not a fan of these. Typically over the years I have loved Pro-Line products, both these Big Bore Scaler shocks for mini and micro crawlers miss the mark badly. I have 2 sets of these - one set for TRX4M and one set for an SCX24. Both sets leak oil badly out of the top and both sets are very "sticky" when the vehicle sits for any length of time. I have disassembled and reassembled both sets several times, trying different oils and lubes for the seals but they still stick and they constantly leak. I am very disappointed in these shocks.

The shocks do not match the stated specs. They are longer when extended, longer when collapsed, and have a shorter stroke than specified. Actual Extended Length: 53.75 mm vs stated 52 mm. Actual Collapsed Length: 40.75 mm vs stated 36 mm. Actual Shock Stroke: 13 mm vs stated 14 mm. I gave them 2 stars because, despite their stats being misrepresented by ProLine, the build quality appears to be good. Additionally, how can a Shock with an extended Length of 52 mm and a collapsed Length of 36 mm only have a 14 mm stroke? The math does not work: 52 - 36 = 16.

Missing seals proline doesn't sell them and won't send replacement completely useless. Very unimpressed with the entire purchase.

What reviewers say

Reviewers report consistent problems with these shocks. Multiple reviewers say the units leak oil from the top, and two describe them becoming sticky when parked for a period, even after rebuilding with different oils and lubes. One reviewer says a set arrived missing gaskets and a spacer, and another says replacement seals were not available from the manufacturer. A reviewer measured dimensions that differ from the stated specifications, including extended length, collapsed length and stroke. One reviewer noted that build quality appeared good despite the dimensional discrepancies. Overall ratings are low, ranging from 1 to 2 out of 5.

  • + Build quality appears good
  • − Shocks leak oil from the top
  • − Sticky action after sitting
  • − Missing gaskets or spacer in some sets
  • − Measured dimensions differ from stated specs
