I'm running this fan on my Tekno ET48 2.2. The fan is very effective in motor cooling, but unfortunately I've had two fan failures so far. Both failures were the same: The attachment of the rotating part of the fan (the part with the blades) to its axle becomes loose so the rotating part can wobble. The rotating part does not fly off, because I'm running a Tekin 3865 fan cover; instead, the rotating part rubs on the inside of the fan cover, and the fan speed cycles up and down depending upon how much contact the fan is making with the cover. Because the rotating part contains a good sized magnet, it is pretty heavy and has a relatively large moment of inertia, so when the truggy turns the gyroscopic force is considerable. Come to think of it, these repeated gyroscopic forces might be enough to cause the failures over time, although hard landings seem like the most likely cause. The solution would be a stronger mounting to the (very small diameter) axle, which simply press-fits into a socket molded into the plastic of the rotating part. Imagine a threaded axle with a shoulder to hold a washer, rather like how 1/8th piston mounts to the shock shaft. I'd happily pay more for a fan that would last longer!
Works great. Keeps my Hobbywing max10 3652sd nice and cool on 2/3s. Fan stays debris free. Quality construction amd nice wiring.
The bigger profile definitely aids within 1/8 application.
I’ve purchased these for my RC8B4.1e & Kraton 6S vehicles, and would continue to use them. This fan has been through heavy race days and heavy bash sessions (for me). I haven’t had any issues. You will need to supply screws for mounting in most cases, so something to anticipate there.
Lots of air flow and very high speed. Very sturdy, has taken many hard landings and still works perfect. No broken fan blades either
Reviewers generally rate this 40x40x10mm aluminum fan highly for cooling, with several reporting strong airflow, good build quality, and no problems after heavy racing or bashing. Mounting screws are not included in most cases, which one reviewer noted. One reviewer, running the fan on a Tekno ET48 2.2 with a Tekin 3865 fan cover, reported two failures in which the rotating part loosened on its axle and rubbed the cover, causing speed fluctuations. The reviews describe the Silver/Black variant. The failure report is a single account, while the other four reviews are positive and report no such issues.
- + Strong motor cooling
- + High airflow and speed
- + Sturdy build, survives hard landings
- + Good wiring and construction
- − Rotating part can loosen on axle
- − Mounting screws not included in most cases
