About this part

These straight bladed ProTek RC "TruTorque" Lexan Scissors feature a specific blade angle designed specifically for cutting Lexan (Polycarbonate) material. The straight blades are made from Stainless Steel and are effective at precision straight line cutting, as well as light curved work.

For heavy curved cuts use the ProTek R/C Curved Lexan Scissors (PTK-8278).

Amain stands behind the products they sell. What was a frustration was turned around by Brett B. Thank you very much for your quik reply and frankly surprising resolution. Very good customer service. This review is upgraded to five stars for Service due to his efforts. Thanks again Brett

These are so much better to use than standard scissors and cut the body shells a whole lot easier too.

Not sure what all the good reviews are about that's why I bought them and I was very disappointed the first couple times I used them it made a ripple cut anywhere you used them, I tried taking smaller bites using the end using the shank and it still did the same thing made Ripple cuts had to redo the body with my old scissors I wouldn't recommend these at all.

As a hobbyist that’s only been in the hobby a short time, most of what helps make your cars stand out is the tools you use. I have used ProTek tools since my beginning and I’ve purchased this one, while not purchased from Amain directly, I did buy it from my local hobby shop that wholesale purchases items from Amain. As I’ve stated, my toolbox contains mostly ProTek tools because they’re all built with quality and this one is no exception. In fact… this is THE sharpest scissors I own in my whole house! This is important because a dull scissors won’t help in building your next project. Now while I’ve had nothing but success in building my projects with these, I do have one issue and that is the fact that these… are sometimes TOO long to use and I’ve had problems with the scissors scratching up the inside of my bodies. Not a big deal since being a drifter, I’ll probably do far worse but it is a bit of a bugbear. Perhaps ProTek should sell a “stubby” version of these scissors because other than the fact they’re long, they do make great cuts in lexan. I've cut some thicker, .7mm RJ Speed lexan with ease and super clean! So if you’re on the fence about what tools to buy, just get these along with ProTek’s curved “TruTorque” scissors and body reamer as they’ll be the last set of scissors you’ll ever buy!

Great scissors for the price. Nice and sharp. Longer blades than the curved versions, which can get in the way when trimming bodies, but great for general use.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally rate these straight Lexan scissors as sharp, clean-cutting and good value for body trimming and general use, with several owners reporting durability and reliable performance. Opinions are mixed on fit and finish: some note the blades do not close fully to the tip, leaving a short uncut section, and that the longer blades offer less leverage for fine detail work than shorter curved scissors. One reviewer reported ripple cuts on their first uses, while another described good customer service after an issue. Several reviewers recommend pairing them with a curved pair.

  • + Sharp, clean cut on Lexan
  • + Good value for the price
  • + Durable, holds up over time
  • + Good general-purpose use
  • − Blades do not close fully to the tip
  • − Longer blades give less leverage for detail cuts
  • − Ripple cuts reported by one owner
  • − Curved scissors preferred for tight areas
