This review is not to knock Amain, it’s a great place to shop and one of my favorite Hobby stores! But the body with the hood and doors are all different shades of red and do not match. Also a lot of dust or dirt under the paint and the rear axle backside of the pumpkin was missing all the blots and the set pin in rear shaft was so tight that it stripped out. Some of the screws are rounded from over tightening. RC4WD has very nice scale stuff and one of my favorite companys, but their quality seems to struggle! I reached out to Amain about the axle and they sent me out a replacement ! They really care about their customers and go above and beyond! The best place for RC, hands down!
I’m a collector and a crawler of rc crawlers and other Rcs. This by far is an awesome truck from RC4WD. Amain shipped this truck fast.
I'll start off by saying that this truck is beautiful and I will be thoroughly enjoying it. Once it's all assembled and given a good wipe down, it looks really nice and runs good. However, it does have issues right out of the box. It seems the quality control for this release hasn't been very good. Like many have mentioned, the color of the hood, doors and tailgate are a different shade of red than the main body. The factory decals are not applied very well, so I'll probably have to remove them. These issues can be overlooked, especially if you plan on really running this truck hard. The biggest issue I have is the hardware. Not only are most of the screws insanely tight, at least 7 of them were completely rounded out from the factory. Using a high quality brand new hex bit, I found these screws to be so rounded that my hex bit just spun in the head before applying any pressure. This resulted in me having to dremel slots into multiple screws then use every muscle in my body with a flathead screwdriver to break them loose. Many other screws were not even finger tight. This included the knuckles and diff pumpkins. Then there's the shocks. I found that the front shocks were binding really bad which doesn't allow the front to rebound. Even after removing the internal springs, the shocks bind up badly and they will have be replaced. I could have requested a replacement, but I fear they all suffer from similar defects.
Good scale truck only thing other than the paint being off.
Likely the best valued TF2 release ever. I just wish the body could be purchased separately. The detail and additional upgrades that come with the RTR is an exceptional value. My first TF2 was the Midnight Edition Mojave II, purchased in 2021 for $469. Factoring in for inflation, that is equal to the selling price of the 1985, and you receive XVD axels, full opening doors, hood, tail gate, lights, interior, full detailed engine bay, roll bar with light buckets, and a painted body. The quality of the paint is good, however, the quality control of the color is suspect, as the doors, hood, and tailgate are painted separately from the body, thus there is some color differences on the panels. My unit's hood is a different shade than the body, thus removing 1 star. The TF2 has been around for 13 years, and is tried and true, but could use an upgrade with the electronics. CCHand Quik Release is a breeze to use, and a much needed upgrade. The Quik Release does support the entire length of the rocker panel, which should improve the durability of the plastics. For $50, I definitely will purchase additional Quik Release assemblies for my other TF2 Toyotas. UPDATE: Two driveshaft pins were stripped by the factory, due to over torque of the screws. Warranty replacement was been requested. Dropped rating from 4 stars to 3 stars, due to this issue. Let it be known, that this rating has nothing to do with AMain. Their service has been exceptional.
Reviewers praise the Trail Finder 2 1985 Toyota Pickup RTR for its scale detail, included upgrades such as full-opening doors, lights and an interior, and its value relative to the earlier Midnight Edition. Several note good runtime performance once assembled. The most consistent complaint is quality control: the hood, doors and tailgate are painted a different red shade from the body, and factory decals were reported as poorly applied. Two reviewers report over-tight or rounded hardware, and one reports a missing axle component, which the seller replaced. Reviewers also mention dust under the paint. Ratings range from 3 to 5 out of 5, and several reviews comment on the retailer's customer service.

- + Full-opening doors, hood and tailgate
- + Strong value for the RTR package
