Tim Sheldonon Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)

I own 10+ micro-crawlers from all the big names and love to compare and upgrade them... all bought and paid for myself. IMHO, Redcat hit a home run with this one. I'd sum it up like this.... Redcat arrives to the micro-crawler scene well past fashionably late but comes with a solid no excuses no apologies offering that totally blows away Axial and Traxxas in terms of stock crawling capability and product value. The fact that it's $99 at initial release is amazing because it approaches 'Fury FX118 good' on the rocks. Electronics are very good. Motor runs dead silent and slow crawl is proper good. Body size is nearly identical to C10 SCX24. Wheelbase is the same 155MM as many other popular 1/18s and the gladiator/powerwagon SCX24s, although track width is substantially wider than the SCX24s. Stock wheels/tires are VERY good, although also very light. It's unfortunate they are glued on. Servo is a bit slow, but totally makes up for it with plenty of torque. Turning radius, while good, is not class leading. It will benefit from overdrive gears in the front portals (available but already out of stock at this point in time). One other minor nit is that there are a couple places where philips screws can be found, but really not many, and not an issue at all. All in all, it's an excellent product that differentiates itself from, and significantly outperforms, it's competition and punches well above it's weight.

Very impressed with the Ascent 18 especially after upgrading wheels/tires and adding some brass! The motor/trans are geared a little high for slow crawling but once you get use to it and are super light on the throttle it does amazing. I really feel like this one is a huge value, yes the upgrade parts are a bit expensive and I will probably replace the steering servo and motor but I still feel it's an excellent value and a rig that is worth putting money into to make it even better!. Metal gears, great shocks, bearings throughout, a great body and design, super solid. I like the simplicity of the body as well and it's only 14 bucks to get a brand new one!

Beastly crawler for its scale, especially for the price. Made some quick free upgrades by trimming the fenders to remove tire rub, relocated shocks to the most inner mounting position to lower its height slightly for a lower center of gravity, added wheel weights and moved the battery to the front platform for front-end traction and stability on inclines and trimmed the corners of servo for improved steering. I haven't purchased any upgrades as I only run it indoors on makeshift crawl courses in the house. I'm working on an outdoor crawler course in my backyard, once that's ready I can begin to upgrade its parts for additional performance.

Bought one this weekend and amazed at how well it does. The battery lasted at least an hour on the original charge. It will crawl until it is straight up and down. I'm 65 and only got it because my son has an RC and it's to fast for me to be able to not crash it but a rock crawler is perfect....love it so far!

I absolutely love it. I have the Trx4m and this seems more zippy that that body has popped off the front a few times but the rear has always stayed locked in. I liked it so much i just bought rhe grey one as well. Imo the most fun ive ever had for $100 in r/c
