Great little truck. This is the second Ascent 18 I have purchased. Perfect size to take anywhere and have fun. I always get compliments when I’m driving it. The lights are an added benefit to give it that extra flair.
The car is great love these but your shipping is crap ive had stuff come from china faster 5 star for the car 3 for amain
Fantastic little crawler, right out of the box! I'm going to say it: I like it better than my similar T****** - in fact, I wish I'd stumbled across the Scout sooner! The tires are super grippy, and I'm still impressed by the suspension. The lights are bright enough to actually be effective enough for night-time crawling. The controller is very, very smooth, making for realistic, low-speed navigating. If I was going to make an improvement, I might upgrade the guide rails to something aluminum, with slightly higher clearance. I also just love the color; when I have more disposable income, I'll probably buy the orange one for guests / friends. This little truck does not disappoint.
This is my first crawler and it is loads of fun! great price and remarkable performance.
Brace yourself for an anecdote. I was shopping for an inexpensive RC car for my grandson. I used AI for some tips, since I have never been close to an RC car, though I have seen people having a lot of fun. AI insisted I move up in quality to repairable cars with good reviews, instead of disposable toys. AI recommended a couple of afficionado brand names, which were getting outstanding reviews for exceptional value, but I insisted on market leaders offering parts availablity and other support. That is when the sky blue International Scout II appeared. I knew it was the one, though the orange one was the perfect shade of orange. My daughter seemed to stifle her amusement, and insisted my grandson was no where ready for such a thing. I got him some deluxe Matchbox outfits, and the International Scout II came here. It is a blast, and the precision steering is astonishing. I did trim steering a single increment, but it tracked pretty true out of the box. The range is so far I can't enjoy watching it that far away. After reading a few reviews, I didn't expect such respectable battery life. I am not about to try rock crawling, per se, but have a reasonably challenging course with some boulders strewn about. Some dried weeds tipped it over a few times, but it rolls over the rip rap with ease. Just a tiny chip in the paint from the rollovers. I couldn't find a clown car with those ridiculous massive wheels that pleased me, but became obsessed with the Scout II's realistic features. There is something about the detail and realism that has me hooked on operating it. It is not just a fun toy, but a classy scale model, and I can't praise the paint colors enough. I would love to have all 5 colors. Orange one next, then gold. I am not a fan of green vehicles, but Redcat nailed the green, too. Did I mention the powerful headlights and taillights! I expected t to ve in granny gear, but it scoots along plenty fast for my coordination level. I read about all the RC rock crawler fanatics upgrading or replacing broken linkages and drivelines, but they are taking them where mountain goats fear to tread. I don't expect any breakage, but appreciate serviceable parts and availability if I manage to break something. I am really glad I found the Redcat International Scout II. I was an ignorant aspiring newbie, but believe I made the very best first purchase possible. The only downside is I want more International Scout IIs. AMain rushed the Redcat Scout to me absurdly fast. I found the right RC car and the right hobby store. I think readers will love the handsome and capable Scout as much as I do. By the way, they are a bearcat to get out of the packaging. I think sharp premium scissors cutting the zip ties underneath is the way to go, unless you have electrician scissors.
All five reviewers rate the Redcat Ascent-18 International Scout II (Blue) 5/5 and describe it as fun, compact and well suited to crawling. Reviewers praise the lights, which one says are bright enough for night use, and the smooth controller and grippy tires. One reviewer found the suspension impressive and felt it compared favourably with a similar model. The main recurring complaint concerns shipping speed, which one reviewer found slow. One reviewer wished for aluminium guide rails with higher clearance as an upgrade. One review is largely an anecdote about buying the truck for a grandchild and says little about performance. Overall sentiment is uniformly positive, though the sample is small.
- + Compact, fun to drive
- + Bright lights useful at night
- + Smooth controller, realistic low-speed control
- + Grippy tires and good suspension
- − Slow shipping
- − Guide rails could be upgraded for more clearance
