Kevin Kleinon Reefs RC 299LP High Torque/Speed Brushless Low Profile Servo (High Voltage)

I got this servo from my LHS and put in my new Yokomo YZ-2 CAL3 and holy moly this servo is fast and strong. I have been a fan of the Protek 160T and Spektrum 6240 for my 1/10 rigs but this servo is my new favorite. Great job Reefs.

I installed this servo in my EB410 yesterday (Friday, Feb 22, 2019). After installation, I was setting end-points and trimming out steering and noticed how quiet and smooth this servo seemed to operate. In addition to smooth, quiet operation, the end-point adjustment setting was in the high 80s (percent) in both directions. Most of the higher torque servos I own have end-point settings are down in the higher 60s (percent) AND seem to vary widely in both directions. This is important to me because after adjusting end-points on other servos, I notice I have no steering. So, I need to re-adjust end-points back up to a higher number. This tells me that to achieve the steering I need, I must risk damage to the buggy or servo. With this servo, I didn't have that problem. I had all the steering needed without stressing the servo or buggy. Again, a very quiet servo with almost zero buzz when stressed, under load at maximum throw in either direction. Given the price of this servo, buyers can get a powerful brushless servo in a full aluminum case (bottom of the case, too) at the cost of servos with less features.

Biggest waste of money. I purchased this servo for rear steering on my axial Capra. After 15 minutes of use the steering began acting like it had 0 power then would glitch out. After a reset on the truck I got the servo back for about a minute and with no load on the chassis and tires you could hear grinding. The end points were set correct and there was a bec connected and it was set to 6 volts. I guess all the rumors are true concerning the company “reefs”. Never again will I buy a product made by reefs or will I purchase a product that is recommended by the company. Biggest waste of money ever. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Also important to know that Reefs has this servo rate as being SUBMERSIBLE WATERPROOF. And I can attest to that.

I bought the 299LP servo for my mew B74 build. This servo is amazing! Super fast! More than enough torque for a mod 4wd buggy! I switched my b6.3d servo to a REEFS RC 299LP servo as well! Best 1/10 racing servo hands down! Solid, powerful, super fast, programmable servo with a price that can't be beat!

What reviewers say

Most of the 16 reviewers rate the Reefs RC 299LP highly, praising its speed, strength and value, particularly at 7.4 volts and in buggy, drag and crawler builds. Several describe it as quiet, smooth and compact, and one notes it is programmable (Sanwa SSR and Futaba SR modes via USB programmer). One reviewer reports a 5/5 experience of smooth operation with a high end-point setting compared with other servos. Two reviews are critical: one 1/5 reports loss of power, glitching and grinding after about 15 minutes of use, and one 2/5 review says the servo was not as strong as expected. The negative reports are single instances, and the positive reviews are short and general, so the overall picture is favourable but based on limited detail.

  • + Fast response
  • + Strong torque, especially at 7.4 volts
  • + Compact, smooth and quiet operation
  • + Good value for the price
  • − Single report of power loss and grinding after short use
  • − One reviewer found it weaker than expected
  • − Programming needs a USB programmer for some modes
