About the SB-2290SG Servo
High-Power Control & Durable Construction
This servo features a full aluminum case for improved heat dissipation and rigidity, paired with steel gears and three precision ball bearings for smooth, reliable operation under extreme loads. Savox's brushless system boosts output by up to thirty-five percent, giving the SB-2290SG an impressive 972.1oz-in of torque at 8.4V. The rigid case design helps maintain structural stability during high-stress use, ensuring the servo performs consistently even in demanding environments.
Brushless Efficiency & Performance
The brushless motor inside the SB-2290SG provides exceptional torque delivery while maintaining smooth, precise movement across the entire range. This motor design increases efficiency, allowing the servo to respond quickly without sacrificing control. The upgraded controller system works in tandem with the motor to maximize output, giving drivers a noticeable improvement in both strength and responsiveness.
Steel Gear Strength & Precision Bearings
A hardened steel gear train ensures long-term durability, even when subjected to repeated impacts or heavy steering loads. The three precision ball bearings support the output shaft for smooth rotation, reducing friction and improving overall feel. This gear and bearing setup helps maintain accuracy over time, preventing slop and wear that can develop in lesser servos. With these components working together, the SB-2290SG offers a level of reliability that competitive drivers can trust run after run.

Monster is appropriate. I swapped out my very capable Savox 2274SG (relegated to backup duties in my spare buggy) and installed the 2290 into my Tekno eb48.4. Compared to the 2274 the 2290 is noticeably smoother and quieter, helped in part by the very nice metal casing. Where the 2274 liked to chat a little at centre the 2290 centres no issues then silence. The Tekno specifies 300 plus oz-in for steering, at 555.5 oz-in @ 6v the 2290 makes that number with plenty of room to spare. Unless you're using some form of exponential speed-up on your transmitter or have the reflexes of an arrow catching ninja this servo will keep up with steering inputs and faithfully steer the wheels whether doing 8mph or 50mph and unlike the super fast servos it will do so smoothly and more forgivingly. Can't report durability but if it holds up as well as the 2274 then awesome. The 2290 is a nice monster to have under the hood
Works great, no issues turning the big honking tires in my Xmaxx!
Monster torque and fast! You will need to file the inside of the passenger side servo ears to fit your TRX4 as the stock Traxxas 2075x servo ears are longer then the industry standard. You will also need a servo extension. I used the ProTek RC heavy duty 15cm (6") servo extension.
This thing has enough torque to move the wheels on my 20lb 8x8 easily, though it does have 2 of them (1 for each steering axle) and its even quiet while doing it. Great servo will be back for more.
Got the servo for my maxx. Absolutely great. Turns my 3.8 badlands with ease.
Reviewers broadly praise the Savox SB-2290SG for high torque, fast response and build quality, with many using it in crawlers, trail trucks, buggies and even a 100cc aircraft rudder. Several note it runs quietly and smoothly, though one reports a centre-position whine under no load. Fitment notes recur: some TRX4 owners needed to file servo ears and add an extension cable. One reviewer found a 2nd pull weaker than the first, and another said real torque fell short of advertised figures and recommended a strong BEC. The servo is noted as heavy and expensive, and one reviewer mentioned the stock horn is oversized. A single low-rated review concerns a delivery delay and does not address the product itself.
- + High torque
- + Fast response
- + Quiet and smooth operation
- + Solid build quality
- − Centre whine under no load (one report)
- − Heavy and expensive
- − Needs ear filing and extension on some TRX4 installs
- − Power draw requires strong BEC; torque below advertised in one report
