Spektrum RC Sky Remote ID Module
About this part
Modual Overview:
The Spektrum RC Sky Remote ID Module is compatible with all aircraft that require RID and is an easy solution for both new and veteran enthusiasts who wish to fly outside of FRIAs (FAA-Recognized Identification Areas). The Sky will keep you in compliance with the unmanned aircraft rulings implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This digital license plate for your RC aircraft provides required information about the aircraft’s location and identification, which, if necessary, can be used by air traffic control or law enforcement to determine who and what is flying.
- Note:
- Registration of the Sky is required and can be completed through the FAA DroneZone website
- This is for use when flying RC aircraft in areas not designated as FRIAs (FAA-Recognized Identification Areas)

Easy to setup and install, very compact, Spektrum quality.
This device was purchased as a requirement for flying at non FRIAA sites and to be in compliance with the FAA. The extra telemetry stats provided are a bonus. Also, it can be moved and used in any of your planes so you only need to purchase one. Purchased at Amain for half the price of other retailers.
Seamless way to comply with FAA regulations. The unit is light and small, so it’s easy to find a place to mount it. When used with my Spektrum receiver's telemetry it adds some great GPS information like ground speed and altitude as well as location coordinates.
This gizmo seems to work and may keep the FAA off our backs for some time. It's a relatively affordable GPS aboard the model. If there were an app on my phone that provided its flight path after the flight it would be great. The ones I have only show where the gizo located. Anyone that has ever lost a plane would be more inclined to put one of these in the model if it helped find it. It might if it kept broadcasting after a crash, it would probably helpful. However, generally in a crash, the battery, being fairly heavy, disconnects. I think they would sell better if they did something for the user.
Easy to install on my Spektrum AR6210 receiver w/ DX7 transmitter for my helicopters. It detected the GPS satellite pretty fast. I can also attach it on my drones using a 7.4V LiPO and BEC, leaving my DX7 "ON" while using the drone's transmitter.
Reviewers generally report that the Spektrum RC Sky Remote ID Module is easy to install and compact, and that it works with Spektrum receivers and telemetry to add GPS data such as ground speed, altitude and coordinates. Several buyers say it supports FAA compliance for flying at non-FRIAA sites, and one notes it can be moved between aircraft. One reviewer found the GPS locks quickly and that it can be powered from a LiPo and BEC on drones. A recurring criticism is that it does not help recover a crashed aircraft: one reviewer said it lacks flight path logging and that broadcasting may stop when the battery disconnects in a crash. Reviews are few and mostly positive.
