Less than one battery pack thru it and the pressed in pin at the U-joint came out rendering this part useless.

Looked good.did not have note about pin but figured out original pins fit.shaft wore out at pin joint.you would think it should last longer than 4 months!!

After buying this product was a surprise. I cannot screw this nut (M4 set screw) into Pinion Gear. The diameter of the M4 set screw is much larger than the hole diameter of Pinion Gear. I cannot drill Pinion Gear into a larger diameter as I do not have such a strong, powerful drill bit for drilling Pinion Gear hardened steel. It is also impossible to use a M4 set screw from a stock model plastic driveshaft as it dangles due to the fact that the holes are much larger than it.

ok I had to purchase a new driveshaft for my baja rey because stock one got stuck and I did not have a loctite remover and had to break it apart such a noob. So I tested SSD as it was cheaper than the stock plastic, is thinner, probably heavier. I tested it with 3200kv, 3s at 55%, worked well for the first run. I give it 4 stars because the screws do not fit the baja rey outdrives so you have to use stock ones (hopefully you did not lose or destroy them like me) or purchase a set LOS236003. I tried using shaft screws from different cars but all of them were thicker (MST, Axial, Losi, etc). Update: I raced an entire weekend on a buggy track with ramps and very soft and unpredictable terrain and the ssd driveshaft did its job. I will change my rating to 5 stars but keep in mind that you need to purchase a set LOS236003 if you lost one or two of your shaft screws.

What reviewers say

Reviewers report mixed experiences with this steel rear driveshaft for the Rock/Baja Rey. One reviewer saw the U-joint pin come out after less than one battery pack, and another reported the shaft wearing at the pin joint within four months. A reviewer who rated it 5/5 found it worked well in early runs and later raced a full weekend, though they rated it 4 stars because the set screws did not fit the outdrives and stock or alternative screws were needed. Another reviewer said the M4 set screw was too large for the pinion gear hole and could not be fitted without drilling. Fit and pin retention are the recurring concerns; the reviews are few and conflicting.

  • + Steel construction
  • + Lower cost than stock plastic driveshaft
  • + Thinner profile
  • + Worked well in early runs
  • − Pressed-in U-joint pin came out
  • − Shaft wore at pin joint
  • − Set screws do not fit outdrives
  • − M4 set screw too large for pinion gear hole
