It was my first RC kit, and I had a blast putting it together. Ended up giving it to my pops for Father's Day, and he loves it! I'll definitely be upgrading it with a brushless motor and some street tires (mostly driving on pavement). I'd highly recommend a light kit for the light buckets on this (I had to place the module where the driver would be); it adds a whole other layer of cool. I'd definitely recommend this for someone new to the hobby, like me! Also, make sure to accurately measure the servo arms setup; I didn't do this the first time around and just compared the length to the manual, and it didn't work out all too well. A digital caliper comes in very handy with this!
I've wanted a Hotshot since I was little and finally took the opportunity on this one. I really appreciated the superb attention to detail that pays great homage to the full-sized buggies of the 80s. The Tamiya instructions were masterfully done, as always, and the kit was a real joy to assemble. Shaft drive is not a great way to make a fast buggy, but the 4WD really makes this thing a blast to drive in light snow and I find myself taking this one off the shelf to drive more than my other buggies. I'd say it's hard to go wrong with this kit. It is stunning to look at, fun to build, and a blast to drive.
This was a fun little project with a lot of nostalgia. It’s a well built kit with good instructions. Love the Block head style. My only problem was the decals not being precut but with a sharp pair of scissors and some patience it comes out awesome.
This thing was a blast! First kit I’ve built after years out of the hobby and first Tamiya kit I’ve built. I will absolutely be getting more Tamiya kits. Drives great, especially when you throw some oil filled shocks on it and get the ride height tuned in.
Wanted to add something retro to my fleet to play around with, very cool and unique. It’s plenty fast enough when paired with a tamiya BZ motor, would recommend

Driving reviews are positive, with one noting good performance in light snow and another finding it fast enough with a Tamiya BZ motor. Recurring points of note include decals that are not pre-cut, the need to measure servo arm setup carefully, and the value of tuning ride height and upgrading shocks.
