About this part

This is a 100ml can of Tamiya PS-38 Translucent Blue Lexan Spray Paint. These spray paints were developed especially for decorating transparent polycarbonate bodies used in R/C car modeling. Each can contains 100ml (3oz) of paint, which is the appropriate amount for finishing one 1/10 scale model.

Painting polycarbonate bodies is done from the inside of the body shell as opposed to the outside of a traditional plastic model. When spraying body from the inside, keep the can about 30cm from the surface. After curing apply another coat as necessary. These paints are impervious to oil and fuels, so they can be safely used on gas-powered R/C bodies.

Warning: Never use these paints on plastic models.

Brian Abbotton Tamiya PS-38 Translucent Blue Lexan Spray Paint (100ml)

This paint must be applied in light coats, like all TRUE candy colors. If you try to apply too fast, it will just run. The more you apply the darker it will get. Best if backed with chrome, bright metallic silver, metallic gold, or any bright metallic. It will change the color with different backers, and white is extremely difficult to get a good result with...same goes for any candy paint

I only use Tamiya PS and TS paint. I only wish that they came in bigger cans.

Very runny paint...there is nothing really translucent about this unless you hold it up to direct light. Also the color was more of a purple or super dark blue rather then a normal shade of blue. Sticking to pactra for my paint needs. Ruined the paint job.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally describe this translucent candy paint as requiring light, multiple coats, since heavy application runs and darkens the finish. Colour appearance depends heavily on the underlying backing: reviewers recommend chrome, bright silver, gold or other bright metallics, and note that white backing is difficult to get good results over. One reviewer praised the brand's PS and TS line and wished for larger cans. A single one-star review reported runny application, limited translucency except in direct light, and a colour closer to purple or very dark blue than expected. Overall sentiment is mixed, based on a small number of reviews.

  • + Good results when applied in light coats
  • + Looks best over bright metallic backing
  • + Loyal use of Tamiya PS line
  • − Runs easily if applied too heavily
  • − Colour shifts with backing; white backing difficult
  • − Translucency limited except in direct light
  • − Only available in 100ml can
