I've got a lot of experience with ceramic style elements and handled my new iron with care. The first session was short and sweet. No issues, easy to use, no indications of damage. Again, I know how to treat these things and how not to treat them. I go to use it for the second time a day or two later and it won't even heat up giving me an error code. I knew immediately what it was and my heart hit the floor if it didn't go through it. I'm supposed to be getting the new motor and esc via FEDEX yesterday BTW. Things haven't been going well on this build as far as procurement of parts. Buying stuff I don't need to because of limited data or misleading data. It's not supposed to be this frustrating especially when you figure how much money is going into it. There's more than one kind of burnout and I fear that I have entered the danger zone of the wrong kind of burnout. To make it even worse, "Team Exalt" nor A-Main were willing to help. Edited, I'm going to give this thing one more shot. I'll definitely be checking the ceramic core upon receiving it before ever using it. I said that I would update, we'll everything seems to be okay at this point. It heats up pretty quickly that's nice. I don't need anything but a chisel tip.

Holy fat spade tip Batman! This iron seems to be the perfect "on the road" iron because it cranks out a lot of watts with a giant spade tip. It would be awful for soldering really small wires, but it works wonders for 1/8 motor tabs and big (QS8) connectors.

I absolutely love mine. My soldering has never looked better. I've had this for about a year now, building cars regularly for people and it's held up great. Gets up to temp in about a minute.

What reviewers say

Reviewers disagree sharply on this 110V soldering iron. Two long-term or repeat users praise its heat-up speed, solder quality, and durability, with one noting a large spade tip suits motor tabs and big connectors but is poor for small wires. Two reviewers report a verified-owner unit that worked on first use but failed on a second session, with one showing an error code and not heating up. The failure reports are recurring within this small sample, and the cause is not identified in the reviews.

  • + Heats up quickly
  • + Good solder results
  • + Durable over about a year of regular use
  • + Large spade tip handles motor tabs and big connectors
  • − Failed to heat on second use in some units
  • − Shows an error code when it fails
  • − Large tip unsuitable for small wires
