Next Level Competition Race Buggy - TLR 22X

Team Losi Racing takes its revolutionary 22 series and launches the next era of electric racing dominance with the 22X AC 2WD kit — an updated design with more adjustability for higher speed capabilities on today’s high-grip astro and carpet surfaces. The result is a buggy design that's easier to maintain and comes optimized for astro and carpet tracks, with a ton of adjustability that makes it easier to drive faster on today's high-grip surfaces.

About the 22X AC

Chassis

Lengthened for consistency with current track types, the 2mm machined 7075-T6 aluminum chassis is hard-anodized for excellent wear characteristics and precision milled to flex in the correct places for optimal grip. Continuing to make the 22 vehicles the best-driving 2WDs Team Losi Racing has ever created, the 22X AC race kit features refined steering geometry for a smooth, consistent feel going around the track.

Suspension

Larger 13mm big-bore shocks are included with the 22X for even better handling and cornering. They're paired with 13mm springs to provide the proper support. The updated shocks have updated G3 3mm internals while utilizing the current trusted seals. A wide variety of caster adjustment options — from -5° to 5°, in 2.5° increments — are available right out of the box. In combination with the adjustable kick-up, this lets you go from 15° to 30° of total caster.

Drivetrain

The updated laydown gearbox design allows easy access to the differential and idler gear. The idler gear and differential can be replaced and maintained quickly without disassembling the entire gearbox — a key convenience because the suspension uses the gearbox for all of its mounting points. Multiple differential heights are possible, starting higher than the previous 22 vehicles for the current style tracks.

This was my first kit I've put together in my few years of racing, and ive always viewed this as such a daunting task. I'm used to swapping gears and working on my TLR 22 5.0 buggies, where you have to take 13 screws out to work on anything. But the new 22x was so easy to put together it's crazy! So fun to put together, can't wait to drive it!

Car handles pretty good out of the box, but really annoyed how the front pivot block broke apart in multiple places first few laps on the track. I should have listened to the other online commenters who suggested buying an aluminum one first thing. I would think TLR after taking so long to release an updated kit, would have realized this issue during testing. Pretty disappointing.

I think I got an earlier kit as it came new with a significant discount. the rear Bones were the wrong length and I had to order new longer bones. missing hardware and some of the instructions and errors like showing wrong screws being used and some of the parts bags had missing hardware. Once I got it built and ran it a few times, it drives great. Very predictable and easy to drive. But after 2 track days I noticed a large amount of slop in all of the suspension components. I'm familiar with "race slop" as a car ages. But after 2 race days it was sloppier than anything I have ever seen. The car still gets the job done and I have not noticed any bad handling characteristics. I just expected fit and finish to be a bit better.

This is my 2nd TLR 22 and i just got it built and got to run 2 packs through it so far and this car DOES NOT DISAPPOINT ! I qualified 2nd in heat 1 right out of the box using the kit settings. the car felt sweet, not to plush not too stiff good middle ground and only had 1 carpet roll that was probably more driver error. I left the track wanting more time so I could make the car even faster because there is so much more speed left in it for me to find. my tuning skills are just ok, but with this car I am excited to keep trying to get better and faster. great job TLR, it was worth the wait from my last 22 5.0. if your on fence about getting the new X, I can say I dont think you will be disappointed at all.

The car is good to drive but rims may be included for the price

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally rate the kit well, averaging around 4.4 out of 5 across eight reviews. Several praise its straightforward assembly, good out-of-the-box handling, and fit and finish, and one owner reports competitive lap times on the kit settings. The main recurring complaint is durability: one owner reports the plastic front pivot block breaking in several places within the first laps, and another reports excessive suspension slop after two race days. A reviewer who received an earlier kit reports wrong-length rear parts and missing hardware, so build quality may vary. Some feel the car needs more adjustment than competitors and that wheels could be included at this price. One review concerns delivery and VAT rather than the car.

  • + Easy, straightforward assembly
  • + Good handling out of the box
  • + Good fit, finish and tolerances
  • + Competitive performance on kit settings
  • − Front pivot block breaks under use
  • − Excessive suspension slop after short use
  • − Missing hardware and wrong-length parts reported
  • − Needs significant setup; wheels not included
