After about two runs the "skinny" pin came out after modification the other pin came out just over all a bad design.

Bought these for the Traxxas Slash 4x4 VXL with stock motor, ESC, and monster tires (2.8 Trenchers) because I kept ripping through the stock plastic yoke. These lasted approximately 10 seconds before one of the U joint pins fell off. Maybe it was a dud; however, the multi-piece engineering (vs. the single piece engineering of the stock u joint pins) looks like bad engineering.

Its a no brainer. These steel yokes are so much tougher than the stock plastic ones. My stampede yokes became loose after several hard runnings and the drive shafts keeps disengaging. I got no issues of that after I installed these.

These are a little better than stocks but not a whole lot. Mabye I just got some bad ones, but after running them for about 2 months on a Castle cm36 motor they have started to round out. Now after about 2.5 months there is about a millimetre of play in them. One of the upsides is that on a sunny day they look shiny and cool. Probably for the stock brushed system these would have been awesone, but for me at least, with the brushlerss system it didn't really help much.

What reviewers say

Reviewers are generally positive about the hardened steel yokes as a durable upgrade over stock plastic, with several owners reporting long life and easy installation. Negative experiences are mixed: two reviewers reported U-joint pins falling out early, one of them on a Slash 4x4 with a high-power setup, and a third reported rounding and about a millimetre of play after roughly 2.5 months with a brushless motor. One reviewer noted some rust after exposure to snow or water, and one suggested thread-locking the screws to prevent separation. Overall sentiment is favourable, but reports of pin failure and wear are not isolated.

  • + Tougher than stock plastic yokes
  • + Long lasting in reports
  • + Easy installation
  • + Good fit and finish
  • − U-joint pins falling out early
  • − Rounding and play after months of use
  • − Surface rust after snow or water exposure
