I love these shocks. They are very smooth! Dirt doesn't get into them (like the plastic ones), which means longer oil life. The oil included is way to thin, so go up to 70-100wt oil. These compared to the stock ones are like scratching your fingernails on a sidewalk vs. sliding them on a varnished oak table!

These shocks leak just as bad as the plastic bodied shocks that came with my truck. They have the same bad design with the snap on cap that doesn't put any pressure on the O-rings. I don't know why Traxxas doesn't come out with a new shock design for the 1/16 vehicles.

These shocks are AMAZING. much better than the stock ones that get dirt in them and leak all the time. I run these on a 1/16 erevo vxl with 80 wt oil and have not replaced the oil in over 2 months and they still run like new. Totally worth the money.

What reviewers say

Reviewers of the Traxxas GTR Hard Anodized Shock Set (4) report smooth action and good resistance to dirt ingress compared with stock plastic-bodied shocks, with one owner noting longer oil life. Two reviewers praise the shocks as a clear upgrade. One reviewer disagrees, reporting that the shocks leak as badly as the stock units, which they attribute to the snap-on cap design and O-ring sealing. Reviewers also note the included oil is thin and suggest a heavier weight, such as 70-100wt or 80wt. Overall sentiment is mostly positive, but the sample is small and the leakage report conflicts with the others.

  • + Smooth action
  • + Keeps dirt out compared with stock shocks
  • + Longer oil life
  • + Clear upgrade over stock shocks
  • − Shocks reported to leak
  • − Snap-on cap design with weak O-ring sealing
