About this part

This is an optional set of Traxxas Rear Steel-Spline Constant-Velocity Driveshafts, intended for use with 4x4 and 4x4 VXL models of the Hoss, Rustler, Stampede and Slash kits. The driveshafts are engineered to satisfy the performance and durability needs of the most demanding drivers. Designed specifically for monster truck applications, these shafts are built to withstand the brutal torque of Hoss’ 540XL motor and the massive grip of the huge Sledgehammer tires. Traxxas’ unique, splined telescoping design delivers full-range articulation, so there is never a need to limit suspension travel. Since they are made by Traxxas, you can count on easy installation and perfect fit in your Traxxas model.

Way stronger than the plastic ones and an easy drop in upgrade, my only complaint is they will get surface rust fairly quickly but that has not caused any performance issues.

Let me please start this review by saying the product itself is amazing! It is a quality steel driveshaft, however, this is the problem (and one you're all likely familiar with): Traxxas includes grub/set screws that are far inferior to the high-quality stainless steel versions from "The Original RC Screwz" (sold on amain hobbies), or similar versions on the market. I installed the front/rear driveshafts and was immediately stoked about the purchase until I started having inevitable issues at the outdoor off-road track. The grub/set screw became stripped and is impossible to get out. Because of the low quality of the set screw, I'm going to have to take my short course Slash 4x4 into the shop to have help removing the screw. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN TO INSTALL THE HIGHER END SET SCREW FROM RC SCREWZ right off the bat, thereby avoiding this issue. However, now I feel I'll likely lose the $180 I spent on the set of driveshafts. Buyer beware... these are amazing but you NEED to install higher quality grub screws when you install them, otherwise, you're up to $hit creek without a paddle. They're far too expensive to waste on something as minuscule as grub screws. I wish I could give 2.5 stars. I'm 50/50 but only because of the aforementioned reason. It's frustrating as all h3ll! UPDATE: As always, amainhobbies.com is more than present when it comes to customer service, a rarity these days! The scrub screws stripped completely and to the point I needed to have my local hobby shop help me remove the struggled driveshafts. The product is amazing, but it's important to use HIGH-QUALITY hex drivers to avoid the problems I've been dealing with. Luckily, amainhobbies is helping me replace the product and a lot of it has to do with user error on my part. Veterans will have no problem with the product, but as a newbie returning to this world, mistakes happen. I'm thankful the online distributor backs us up when things happen like what I've explained above. The product is stellar. Be careful when installing and working on the vehicles, use high-quality hexes, and keep using amainhobbies who'll back you up should things go awry. Updated to 5 of 5 thanks to amain!

I have not had a chance to test the durability on these axles, but they feel sturdy. I installed them on my stock Slash VXL 4x4 Ultimate edition and they fit well. I'm making this review just to let others know that these 9052X axles are the correct part. I took my slash to a local hobby store and they showed me the wrong part number for my truck. Make sure you look at Traxxas's website and find the correct part for your slash. The 2wd, 4x4, and 4x4 Ultimate have different part numbers.

In the search for a solid cvd I came across these. I wanted bulletproof and heavy. I think I found both! While these are NOT intended for the 2wd Slash, they are just what I was looking for. I had to order a few parts to make them fit my 2wd, but I love them. I like the weight (anything to help keep the rear planted on the track!) And they are super smooth and rugged. I don't bash, so I can't attest to thier durability in that atmosphere, but, they are great for my racing application! I bought these at my LHS (gotta keep the small guys going too).

A must have for 3S. Bought these for my Rustler 4x4 VXL, I’ve been running them for 3 months now with 0 issues.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally describe these steel-spline rear CV driveshafts as sturdier than plastic stock parts and a straightforward drop-in upgrade on Slash and Rustler platforms. One owner reports three months of use on a 3S setup without issues, and another notes they feel solid but has not yet tested durability. Recurring criticism concerns the supplied grub/set screws, which one reviewer found soft and prone to stripping, making removal difficult. Surface rust appearing relatively quickly is also mentioned. Fit depends on the exact truck variant: one reviewer found the 2WD Slash needed additional parts, and another stressed checking the correct part number for 2WD, 4x4 and 4x4 Ultimate models.

  • + Stronger than plastic driveshafts
  • + Easy drop-in upgrade
  • + Smooth, rugged feel
  • + Heavier weight for racing
  • − Supplied set screws strip easily
  • − Surface rust appears fairly quickly
  • − Fit varies by variant; 2WD may need extra parts
  • − Limited long-term durability feedback
