Not the best really lot of play in the steering I would suggest aluminum.
Installed this in my Traxxas Slash BL-2s 2wd before I ever drove it to make the truck more durable. Still working perfectly. Getting the spring retainer clips in is difficult, but I used a small pair of pliers to help push the spring down so I was still able to see the retainer. This is the same steering bellcrank set that my Rustler 4x4 VXL uses from factory. It has lasted four years now and is still going strong with the factory plastic servo horn.
While investigating resistance in my steering for a heavily modified Rally, I wanted to eliminate the Bellcrank assembly as the root cause. After full disassembly and eliminating it as the problem, I had issues getting the servo saver back together. The retaining collar that keeps the spring in place is very thin, and the 4 plastic clips that are meant to hold it in place likely lose their resilience over time. I had a heck of a time getting it back together again. The video on this page is helpful, but in the end I had to keep the spring and clollar compressed with one hand while I pushed the bearing in with the other. Took more than a few attempts and you can imagine what happens when that compressed spring slips. Sends the retaining collar off like a rocket. Lots of frustration. Even though I got it all back together again (and fixed the unrelated steering issue) I ended up buying an upgrade. One that has a threaded adjustable nut for the servo saver spring. Minus one star for design, minus one star for pure frustration, plus one star for price.
Reviewers describe the Traxxas Steering Bellcrank Set as a replacement for the factory part. One verified owner reports noticeable play in the steering and suggests aluminum as a more precise alternative. Another verified owner installed it on a Slash BL-2s 2WD for durability and reports it still works well, noting that fitting the spring retainer clips was difficult and needed pliers to hold the spring down. A third reviewer, who was troubleshooting steering resistance on a heavily modified Rally, found reassembling the servo saver hard, citing a thin retaining collar and plastic clips that may weaken over time. Reviewers agree that reassembly is fiddly; they disagree on steering play and durability, with the owner who reports years of use being the most positive.
