Had to leave a review after recent maintenance and seeing a 1 star review. Maybe “Terry” got a bad batch but I send my xmaxx hard, run in dirty wet conditions, and have stripped a set of steel spur/pinion after my pinion slipped; still never broke or even put noticeable wear on these gears. If you don’t have bulkhead issues you will not break these gears. Picked up a spare set just in case but as of 18 months of beating the breaks off my already pre owned xmaxx I’ve never had issues with these gears and my truck may still be on the non heavy duty version of these so…. Rest assured these will last. If you’re going through diff pinions you have other issues going on 1000%

They’re cheap and very durable. Mine have seen hell and haven’t even fully stripped after one set of batteries getting retired and a cracked bulkhead.

These gears are so weak that they break almost every run of the car. An upgrade needs to be made for this.

What reviewers say

Reviewers are split on durability. Two 5-star reviewers report long use under hard driving, including wet and dirty conditions, with no breakage or noticeable wear, and one notes these gears held up despite a cracked bulkhead. One reviewer says a previous pinion slipped and stripped the steel spur/pinion set. A single verified 1-star reviewer reports the gears break nearly every run and calls for an upgrade. The reviews suggest that drivetrain problems such as bulkhead issues may affect gear life, but the sample is small and the reviews conflict.

  • + Durable under hard use
  • + Low price
  • + Held up with a cracked bulkhead
  • − Breakage reported by one verified owner
  • − Inconsistent durability between reviews
