I picked up this kit because I always wanted a Yokomo project-and this one is very budget-friendly. It's set up for a shorty Lipo but I managed to modify it for a 7.2v Nimh stick battery by simply using a low profile servo. You have to get wheels and tires-but Yokomo wheels are very cheap and easy to find-and the choice of 2.2 tires is almost endless. The build was extremely easy-you could complete it in one evening if you wanted to. I like the slipper clutch and the simplicity of a gear differential. Perfect for bashing if you don't want to race it-but I think it could hold its own on a track as well. Great value for the money.
This car is a fun build but I had a couple issues to overcome. First, the diff needed to be shimmed because on my car it slid side to side inside the gearbox. A couple of 10x12mm shims (not sure of the thickness so so experimenting is needed) fixes that issue. The other was the battery holders. They are for a low profile type 2s shorty pack. I don't have that type of battery pack so I had to find some spacers. Other than that the build was very easy and fun. The manual recommends a 21.5t motor for the included 23t pinion, however, I went with a 17.5t motor with a 25t pinion and that seems to work well at the track I play at. The setup the manual recommends is a very good starting point.
What a great buggy! Had me sold with the spur gear cover. Which is what has kept me from a modern buggy I run in sandy red clay. The quality and value of this yokomo is of the chart. TOP NOTCH!
This is an excellent buggy for the price. Easy to build. Great quality, fit, and finish. I’ve been practicing on a clay track and traction has been super with TZO gold slicks. I’ve had the urge to upgrade the plastic shocks, but honestly, there really isn’t a reason to upgrade yet. I definitely recommend this kit.
Surprisingly good kit even on low grip dirt track. Very planted and well balanced. Can’t complain for its value price. Even its all plastic i see it durability but let’s see. Easy to build too
