About this part

Performance Boosted & Budget Friendly TC Race Car

Dominate the track with the Yokomo Rookie Speed RS 1.0 — precision 4WD, advanced suspension, and lightweight carbon fiber short shocks deliver unmatched control, balance, and responsiveness for entry-level touring car racers.

About the RS 1.0 with Short Shocks Conversion

Balanced 4WD Drivetrain

The Yokomo RS 1.0 Electric 4WD Touring Car Kit features a two-belt drive system with equal-length front and rear belts, providing exceptional balance and razor-sharp responsiveness. Front and rear sealed gear differentials enhance cornering performance, while universal shafts and full ball bearings improve drive efficiency and acceleration. This entry-level 4WD platform ensures stable, predictable handling and effortless control on pavement.

Advanced Suspension System

Equipped with 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension and height-adjustable oil dampers, the RS 1.0 maintains unwavering traction and stability during cornering. Lightweight aluminum differential axles and a flexible double-deck FRP chassis work together to improve pitching and rolling rigidity, giving the car precise, responsive handling that mirrors the driver’s input.

Short Shocks Conversion

The included Short Shocks and Shock Towers Conversion Kit upgrades the RS 1.0 with ultra-lightweight carbon fiber shock towers and threaded hard-coated aluminum bodies. This lowers the center of gravity, eliminates flex in the stock towers, and enhances cornering stability. The result is sharper response, improved handling, and a more competitive edge for touring car racing.

Dane BohrVerified owneron Yokomo Rookie Speed RS 1.0 1/10 Electric 4WD Touring Car Kit

I just completed building the Yokomo RS 1.0 kit, and overall, it was a very smooth and enjoyable build. This is my first touring car, and I found the quality of the parts and fitment excellent throughout the process. The included Short Shock and Shock Tower Conversion Kit was a nice addition. The short shocks come preassembled but unfilled, and Yokomo includes the shock fluid you’ll need to fill them. The kit also includes the original standard shocks and towers if you prefer to build it in the stock RS 1.0 configuration. I highly recommend using both the RS 1.0 and RS 2.0 instruction manuals during the build. The two cars share many components, and the RS 2.0 manual explains a few steps more clearly—particularly the gear differential assembly and short shock mounting positions. One important note: Both manuals calls for using the included black grease in the differentials, but after watching several build videos and reading user experiences online, I opted to use diff fluid instead. This seems to be the more common and effective approach for consistent performance. Overall, the build quality, fit, and attention to detail are impressive. I’m looking forward to getting it on track soon. I’ll update this review once I’ve had a chance to test it out, as my local track is currently set up for off-road racing. ---Update 11-25-25--- Sorry for the delay in posting this follow-up. I’ve since had the chance to get the car on the track for its initial shakedown, and overall, it runs quite well. I ended up going with 100K in the front differential and 7K in the rear, which felt like a solid starting point for my local conditions. For my first outing, I spent time getting used to the car and working with a couple of experienced drivers to fine-tune my radio settings. One of them even put in several laps with my car and commented that he would race it exactly as it is, which was great to hear—especially since the track I run on is a small but fairly technical carpet layout. I did run into a couple of minor issues. The most noticeable was the steering getting knocked out of alignment from even light taps, so I’ve ordered a servo saver to address that. I also upgraded the plastic center link to the aluminum version for added durability and consistency. I haven’t had the opportunity to get the car back on track since making those changes, but I’ll post another update once I’ve had more time with it. Hopefully this additional info helps anyone considering the kit. — Update 12-09-25 — I was finally able to get the car back on the track after installing the servo saver and upgrading to the aluminum center link, and I’m happy to say the handling has improved noticeably. The car feels more settled and predictable, and the steering has been far more reliable. I also had the chance to race it for the first time, which was a big milestone for me. Since this was my first race ever, I went in with modest expectations, but I finished both qualifiers and the B-Main without any major issues. For a debut outing, I was genuinely pleased with how things went. The following day I put in a lot of practice and worked closely with some fellow racers. With their help—and with the correct tires finally on the car—the setup really came alive. Under the control of a couple of the more experienced drivers at the track, the car was turning consistent 8.7–9.0 second laps, which they said was excellent for our layout. Their feedback confirmed that the chassis is performing extremely well. I still have plenty of room to grow, especially in terms of consistency and gradually increasing my pace, but this car has been a fantastic introduction to on-road racing. I can confidently recommend it to anyone starting out. One additional note: I highly suggest picking up the anti-roll bar kit. It makes a noticeable difference in stability and balance. Just be aware that the included instructions aren’t the clearest, so I’d recommend checking out a YouTube installation video before diving in.

I have not built this one yet, but previously built the RS 2.0 and was thoroughly impressed. This one comes with alminum oil shocks, so good value for money. I originally ordered this one bundled with three other items, all of which were backordered. After a long wait and only one of the four items was still on back order, the customer service gracefully agreed to ship the three items including this one without any extra charge, leaving the other item on back order. So, thank you Amain.

Great touring kit for the price! I have the 2.0 version and personally I prefer this 1.0 version because the flat composite chassis allows me easier access for service. Performance I find identical.

What reviewers say

All three reviewers rate this Yokomo Rookie Speed RS 1.0 kit 5/5 and describe it positively. Reviewers note good parts quality and fitment during the build, and the included short shock and shock tower conversion set. One reviewer says the short shocks arrive preassembled but unfilled, with shock fluid included, and that the kit also contains standard shocks and towers for the stock RS 1.0 configuration. Another advises using both the RS 1.0 and RS 2.0 manuals, since the cars share many components. One reviewer had not yet built the kit and praised the value of the aluminium oil shocks, and reported a backorder situation with the seller. A reviewer familiar with the RS 2.0 prefers the flat composite chassis for easier servicing and reports identical performance. Overall, reviews are few and largely positive, with no recurring complaints about the…
