Thinking about getting my first RC helicopter

Hey everyone, I've been watching RC helicopter videos on YouTube for a while now and I think I'm finally ready to buy my first one. The problem is there are so many different models that I have no idea what's actually good for someone who's never flown a helicopter before.
I keep seeing people recommend the Blade Nano S3, Goosky S1, and OMP M1, but I'm not sure if I should start with something like those or go with a fixed-pitch helicopter first. I'd like to keep my budget under $500.
What was your first RC helicopter, and if you were starting over today, what would you buy?
