Arrma Safe-D5 Mod1 Pinion Gears feature a "D" shaped hole that allows the motor shaft to key inside the pinion gear, eliminating the loss of drive and brakes if the set screws comes loose. This tough steel Pinion Gear is available in multiple tooth count options, allowing you to fine tune the gear ratio. Use the pull down menu above to pick the pinion gear for your application.

Features:

  • Strong and durable steel for long-lasting performance in extreme RC conditions
  • Precision manufactured wide tooth profile for smooth operation
  • 'D' shaped hole to match motor shaft profile so drive and brakes are not lost if the set-screw backs out
  • Suits 5mm motor shaft diameter
  • Precision manufactured threaded set-screw hole
  • E-clip supplied for motor shaft pinion retention

Includes:

  • (1) Mod1 Safe-D Pinion Gear

This is a must have on the Kraton 6s, I tried other pinions and the set screw instantly came loose, and this one stayed tight alot longer and has the D shape to help. My only problem is that the set screw is a great idea, but it still comes off sometimes along with the pinion gear.

Safe-D pinions are the only pinions I run. They last a long time, and you don’t have them fly off and get lost if they happen to come loose. Best pinion on the market.

I am a huge fan of the D shaft pinion gears series by ARRMA, both the D5, and the D8. Both are incredibly good gears, and very strong, and stand up much much better than their simple set screw counterparts.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally praise the Safe-D5 pinion's D-shaped bore design, which they say holds better than standard set-screw pinions and resists flying off. Several reviewers describe it as durable and a long-lasting choice on Kraton-class vehicles. However, one verified reviewer on the Kraton 6S variant notes the set screw still occasionally loosens and the pinion can come off with it. Two low-rated reviews raise fit concerns: one reports too much play on the motor shaft for the 25T variant, and another says the 24T variant does not fit a Kraton 8S because the newer model uses an 8mm bore rather than 5mm. One 1/5 review contains no substantive feedback about the product. Reviews cover several tooth counts, so experiences may vary by variant.

  • + D-shaped bore holds better than set-screw pinions
  • + Durable and long-lasting
  • + Stays tight and resists coming loose
  • − Set screw can still loosen and pinion may come off
  • − Reported loose fit on motor shaft for 25T variant
  • − 24T variant does not fit Kraton 8S (5mm vs 8mm bore)
