About this part

Exotek Flite 48P Machined Spur Gears are a great solution when you want a precise, perfectly round and super lightweight spur gear. These gears are truer and much stiffer than a standard nylon spur gear and weigh a mere 4.1 grams. Must use with Exotek Direct Spur Hub (AE - EXO1379, TLR - EXO1419, Kyosho - EXO1423, Yokomo - EXO1558), XRAY - EXO1582). Use the menu above to choose from a variety of tooth count options.

This is incredible light compared to the Kimbrough spurs recommended with Exotek's lockout. You need three 3X6mm BH screws to make this work.

Stronger than kimbrough but mech is always funny. Like the gear is not true. Tight is some spot and loose in another.

Exotek gears are machined; at least that is what they say. Almost every Exotek gear I have purchased from Amain or my local hobby store are not very round. They all have high and low spots. This is not good considering the amount of load that is put on each tooth. The low spots are the weakest area of the gear because your gear mesh changes. The result of this is a smaller contact point between the pinion and spur gear. This is where your failure will happen. The injection molded gears are more reliable simply because they are more concentric. Not everything a big name makes will be better or best option.

Super light weight. Seems to be good solid quality. I run this with my YZ2 DTM2, with a lockout kit. I also run the 175RC pinions which work great together. EXOTEK is winning me back to their spurs again with these.

What reviewers say

Reviewers generally praise the Exotek Flite 48P machined spur gear for its light weight and solid build, with several owners reporting good performance and fit with Exotek lockout or direct-drive kits. Opinions diverge on durability: one verified owner reported stripped teeth after one race night under hard drag racing, and another said the gear would not hold up under hard drag use. A 1-star reviewer argued Exotek machined gears often lack roundness, causing high and low spots, and preferred injection-molded gears. Some reviewers reported mesh that feels tight in one spot and loose in another. Reviews cover several tooth counts (66T, 69T, 72T, 78T, 84T), so experiences may vary by variant.

  • + Very light weight

  • + Solid build quality reported by several owners
  • + Strong performance in drag racing for some owners
