The set screw is not 1.5mm like it should be. None of my standard RC tools work with it.
Grate lite gear. If you need a set screw it is a 4-40 x 1/8"
These gears work great if you run on carpet or use a transmission gear cover...if you run in dirt ouside they may pick up small particles and chip the teeth.
Installed in a Kyosho Javelin re re. 17.5T HW motor and ESC, Kyosho upgrade spur gear. The good: This gear works as advertised. Just by rolling the buggy on a flat surface, I could tell that rolling resistance was greatly reduced. Tested under power, the car was noticeably quicker. The bad: The gear is strangely noisy. It may be an imperial and not metric pitch. It also is very thin and I am not sure how long it will last, or whether it will cause my spur gear to develop weird wear patterns. The baffling: Why did JK make the grub screw imperial and not metric?
Works awesome with 17.5 class and a slipper eliminator. Have 0 issues for months now.
Reviewers are divided on this 48P plastic pinion. Many report smooth running, reduced rolling resistance, a slight speed gain, and little wear on carpet or clay with a slipper eliminator, especially in 17.5 and 21.5 classes. Others report early failures: the set screw strips easily, the shaft can be thin, and the teeth can chip in dirt. Several reviewers note the set screw is imperial (0.050 inch or 4-40) rather than the 1.5mm metric size they expected. Complaints about stuck pinions and a poor fit on a Traxxas BL-2S shaft also appear. Some one-star reviews name no variant, and the 1-star reviews span several tooth counts.
