Similar to the other review, I ran one of the V1 pinions on a 13.5 wheeler for a full season and was impressed that it held up as well as it did. Ordered a few more for this year and only made it through 2 practice runs before the metal center broke off the plastic of the pinion in a qualifier. The previous design was solid around the metal center but the spokes on the V2 seem to be a major weak point. Don't think that I'll be running these again unless the design changes back.

I’ve run the original version for a couple years in both 17.5 buggy and stadium truck. However, this v2 version broke in my second stadium truck qualifying heat today. It lasted a total of about 7 minutes. I don’t know these are worth running any longer. The v2 seems significantly weaker than the original.

I should have read the previous reviews. I ran this on a 17.5 offroad carpet B7 It lasted 2 practice sessions before the hub spun in plastic.

Like others have mentioned, the v2 version didn’t last one 5 min heat race before it came apart. I have ran the previous version without issue for a couple years. Would not recommend the v2 version.

Ran great in my local stock buggy class! 17.5 2wd

What reviewers say

Five of the six reviewers report that the V2 plastic pinion failed in use, typically with the metal center hub spinning or separating from the plastic body, often within a few practice runs or a single heat. Several reviewers say the original V1 or solid pinion lasted for years without issue, and they attribute the V2 failures to weaker spokes or hub retention. One reviewer, running a 29T pinion in stock buggy, reported it ran well with no failure. Failures were reported across 27T, 28T and 31T variants, and across buggy and stadium truck use. Reviewers did not agree on whether the cause is the design or the bonding process.

  • + Light weight savings
  • + Ran well for one reviewer in stock buggy (29T)
  • − Metal hub spins or separates from plastic
  • − Failures after few practice runs or one heat
  • − Weaker than the V1 or solid pinion
  • − Spokes appear to be a weak point
