Beware of the grub screw. It will chew up spurs if you’re not careful, especially on 5mm shafts as the length causes it to stick up high. Otherwise seem like an OK pinion for the price.
After having these pinions for a year now, I have found they work well! The mesh and teeth on them are a bit sharp but overall a good choice for pinion. Watch out for the set screw interfering with spur.
This is an affordable 5mm pinion. The set screw that I came with my recent purchase (13t) set neatly in the bore. It looks like they fixed the grub screw length issue others here noted. It meshes well with the Kimbrough spur I picked up along with this. It doesn't seem to me any nosier than the 48p gears I replaced with this setup.
Horrible. I've had better pinions from amazon. 11t had a grub screw that stuck out too far and either hit the spur gear or the motor mount. 12t came with a grub screw that was too small. The 14t was so narrow it didn't cover the width of my spur gear.
20T doesn't fit without cutting Chassis Brace Set. Be prepared to cut some plastic.
Reviewers agree the pinion is affordable and works for a range of uses, with several praising quality, fast shipping and suitability for motor upgrades. Opinions diverge sharply on durability and fit. Some owners report good long-term wear and smooth meshing with spur gears, while others describe grub screws that stuck out too far, hit spurs or motor mounts, loosened despite thread locker, or caused a gear to break. Tooth count matters for fit: one reviewer found a 20T needed chassis brace modification, and another said a 20T would likely be needed for motor upgrades. Several reviews note the set screw can interfere with the spur gear. Reviews mix several tooth counts, so experiences vary by size.
